Hey all I had a quick question:

I have two choices. I can eith get a slim PS3 120gig for 299 from Best Buy. Or Fry's has a Older fat model 160gig with Uncharted 2 for the same price.

My question is: does the slim one offer anything better than the fat version other than just saving space? Thanks for the input.

There isn't much of a difference. If I were you, I would get the fat with Uncharted 2.

Get the fat with the Uncharted 2. In my opinion, the fatties look better than the slims, plus you get one of the best games for the PS3 along with it and more memory. Other than being smaller and lighter, the slim has no real advantage over the fat.

EDIT: Oh, and enjoy your PS3. Hope you have as much fun with it as I have.

Well you've got an extra 90 gb of hard drive, its supposedly smaller and runs quieter and with less energy so its up to you.

Slim's less likely to die on you. Just saying.

If money isn't too much of an issue i'd rather the slim over the fat. Smaller, quieter, less energy consumption and better reliability. Hard drive space should be a non-issue as you're more likely to upgrade to something bigger anyways. IMO the only fat models worth it are the ones with BC.

The 160GB Fat model you're referring to actually is bundled with Uncharted: Drake's Fortune, which is the first Uncharted game. The only feature that the Slim has that's different from the fatty, other than HDD space, is Bravia Sync. When connected to a Sony Bravia TV with Bravia Sync via HDMI, you can turn the PS3 on/off with the TV remote. Other than that, there's really not much difference between the two.

Except for the fact it will probably never get the YLOD. I still dont get the Slim and Go hate on these boards.

The fat comes with a free Uncharted 2, like you said, which is one of the best games this gen. There really aren't many features that you'd miss out on besides that the phat does Blu-Ray SLIGHTLY faster, but not enough to notice.

I bought a slim recently, but I honestly think the fat's look better. I like the shiny, glossy finish. Also, the slim's don't have the option to install an operating system (though doing that seems pretty pointless to me anyways) and the slim doesn't have a slot for SD cards (I'm pretty sure the old ones did? Or am I mistaken?).

The slim takes up less space, less energy, and is a bit more reliable, apparently... though the PS3 doesn't have such bad failure rates as the other guys anyways.

You'll be fine. The extra 40gigs isn't really a huge difference, and you can upgrade later if needed. Another good thing about the slim is it's really quiet. Though I'm used to my 360, which is loud as hell.

I'm pretty sure the game bundled with the left over 160GB fat models is actually the original Uncharted game, Drake's Fortune. Not Uncharted 2.

I'm fairly certain the fatter model has backwards compatibility as well. Can any one confirm this?

No, this is a 160GB model, it features no PS2 playback.

Vari3ty

uhhhh right. Because the 5 months since the Slim has been released is PLENTY of time to decide that it won't fail in a year and a half+ like some of the launch systems did.

Personally I say go with the slim, I think it looks better, its smaller, won't scratch up, and has less chance to die on you. no matter what your choice. welcome to the sony side.

If I were in this position and having read all of the BD failures and YLOD and sending my PS3 to Sony 3 times threads I'd go ahead with the Slim. No telling how they are going to hold up down the road since they are fairly new but I'd take my chances :P Also have a slim btw.

The PlayStation 3 Slim is 32% smaller, 36% lighter and has 34% less power consumption than the original Playstation 3 models. PS3 system software update version 3.00 BRAVIA Sync feature also lets you connect the PS3 Slim and a BRAVIA TV with an HDMI cable and users are then able to directly operate the XMB on PS3 using the TV remote control.

the main difference is the space and the more modern components the slim have. But actually the fat have a nicer aspect and more usb ports + the sd reader. i choose the slim because its smaller and have newer components. but the 160 + uncharted is a sweet deal in the end is up to you.

I'd say Slim to make sure you won't get the YLOD without any warranty.
