I'm looking to buy a PSP for my son. What accessories do you suggest I should purchase? (This would include memory cards.)

Thanks, Matt (Australia)

well, it depends, is your son older or younger. if older than he will most likely like music and movies and media and will want space on his memory stick for that stuff and if he does not want media other than games then all you need is a tiny memory stick. also you will want a screen protector, I would reccomend pelican brand. and a pair of earbuds would be nice.

Definately get a screen protector so the screen won't get scratched. I would also buy a case to keep it in, like the Logitech Sony Playgear Pocket, to protect it in case it gets dropped. I have one it's great.

You're gunna want a screen protector for sure. The PSP screen scratches very easily, so this is a must have. I suggest staying away from Pelican ones. They're a pain to apply and there are others that are much better. Hori is said to make the best around, but you have to order them. Also, I saw some official Sony ones at the store yesterday (Walmart) so I'm sure those are better than the cheap Pelican ones.

I also suggest a nice case. I have a headbanger case and it's pretty nice. Just make sure that when you get a case that you don't pack it with games, because mine's supposed to hold 4 games, but I held that many in it and it was really tight and cracked the casing on the UMDs; so I suggest just holding a couple in at a time.

As for the memory cards, they're getting cheaper and cheaper, so finding one at a good bargain should be cake. I suggest not going anywhere under 1gig. I thought a 512mb would be fine when I first got my PSP since I didn't plan on putting much on it, but over time I decided I wanted to put more stuff on it. If you want just music and maybe music videos, go for the 1gig and up, and for movies go no lower than 2gigs. I think 4gigs would make his day, though. :P

A hardcase like the Logitech PGP is a must, and it's pretty cheap.

1GB memory stick duo minimum. 2GB is pretty cheap and 4GB are dropping fast too.

USB cable for transfering stuff to/from PC.

As for games, it depends on what your son likes. The greatest hits series (old, popular games) are priced nice and if I didn't have most of them I'd probably buy a few today ;) You could also look up the high scoring games on GS. I'm currently addicted to PuzzleQuest. It's a cross between Bejeweled and an RPG. Weird mix but it works.

yeah I agree with everyone...the screen protector is a must...I just got my psp last week and I am going to get a screen protector asap. I case would be nice too...I saw some at gamestop for like 10 bucks...if you plan on hooking it to the computer , a usb cord...but if you have a digital camera , the same usb cord works with the psp.memory sticks 2gb and up rule!!!

definately some kind of case to protect it and a screen protector.  Other than that you do need a mem card but I'd look online they are way, way cheaper than best buy.  Like half the cost.  I'd go with a gig at least maybe 2.  You might actually wanna use it to watch movies who knows...

Yeah, go to a trusted place like future shop or best buy, and ask for a used psp in the back. It costs 179,99 and it's practically new. Also, theres a deal with it, if you buy a 2 year extended warranty, you will get $10 off.

Dude, PSPs should already be 169.99, that's just to get you to buy a warranty.
Get a screen Protector( I wish I did), a USB connecter, and a Memory Stick (at least 1 or 2 gigs)

See that warning at the top of the page? Look into it. Those are the only things worth getting a PSP for.
