Well my 80gig PS3 recently got the YLOD, so I am going to get a new one. Is there any reason to wait though, what are the odds there will be a price drop anytime soon. Or a bundle coming out soon? Thanks.

With E3 on the horizon, we might get some news. I don't expect a price drop, but maybe some sort of must-have bundle.

Last time I checked it cost $150 to get it fixed if you send it in to Sony. If they can't fix it they send you a new one anyway, so if you're willing to wait a few weeks, you could save $150.

I actually sent mine into oldscoolgamer.ca, a terrific company. Got a phone call 5 days after dropping it off, they told me motherboard was fried, it would be $200 to fix, also power supply was toast, charged me nothing to look at it. And also got my stuck BC2 out of the drive for free. I would recommend them to everyone.

Well I got the last one I could find here. The only thing is it had a dent on the top corner of the box? It should be ok right? It semmed liked itwas packed in the box pretty tight.

That shouldn't be a problem as long as it doesn't look like it's been returned.

Really? They send you a new one? I thought they would send a refurbished model.

Actually, you might be right. :P I heard the new console thing from someone else so I suppose that person may not have realized that it was a refurb so I can't be sure. If this helps, I was able to talk my way into a free repair for my PS2. It was a disc read error that occurred through no fault of my own. I referenced the manual and argued that I followed it religiously and was able to get them to do it for free. They may have tightened things up but you should try anyway.

If you bought it from the store yes, if you sent it to the oldscoolgamer.ca place, then it's most likely just refurbished. Either way, a dent on a box shouldn't matter.

Just send it to Sony and save $150, easy decision. Or take it apart yourself and see if you can fix it, more trouble but in the long run you could learn something. Not sure if you can actually buy parts for it though. Would be fun though, I custom built my PC so I would love to be able to custom build a PS3.
