I just downloaded the Call of Duty 3 trailer from the Japanese store and well...wouldn't that be like...a really tough sell? I mean, they were on the losing side of that fight, as I recall. Would you want to play a game where you're reminded your country made a really bad move? I mean, I've not played the game...any of the Call of Duty games, actually but I have to wonder just how hard a sell it must be in Germany and Japan. Sorry, completely stupid and silly post but the thought was in my head and I figured I'd ask folks opinion on it.

Never really looked into it that much but thats why many things get censored or taken off shelves in the other countries but at the same time the past is the past and this isnt Wolfenstein were the German are shown doing some scientific b.s. to people it shows the war in a non-hurtful way (non-biased and pointing fingers).

You have a good point but label it as a video game then everything is ok.

I have thought about this myself before, but i think the toughest sell would be to sell a game like call of duty 2 to the germans,i mean imagin being a german person buying call of duty 2 and playing it basically playing against the baddies which is there own country,it must feel weird killing germans when they are germans themselves.

Good point. Glad to know I'm not silly for wondering about that.

We need to look at these games as games. Although there a reminder of what our world has been in the past and still is today. Although I'm an american I don't view these games of a winning or losing side it is a small window of what it must have been like during that time in history. I also enjoy the Socom series because it shows what not only american special forces goes through but many other contries are dealing with today. Granted I think there are wonderful people in all races and religions of the world.

Hah.

If I know about anything, I know about this. If you look at my sig, you will see I work for Stormregion. We made two series of games (Panzers and Rush) which are RTS games that take place in WWII. I am American but I live in Hungary and Stormregion is a Hungarian company. And here is the kicker:

The publishers for our games have been German plus the best market for our games is Germany. Our games are a little different than others because most of them just have you play as the Americans. In our games, you play as the Russians and as the Germans as well as the Americans.

So I have of course asked them (our German publishers) why Germans really like our games when they based on a war they lost? Here is what they say:

Although Germany lost the war and the Nazis commited atrocities, the German war machine was one of the best the world has seen. So there is great pride in the achievements of the German army, navy etc. Some bad decisions made on the part of an insane megalomaniac did contribute to the losses they incurred.

Actually there has been things that the German people should be proud of is the little realized fact that during that time period they developed some of the most reliable mechanical technology in the world. Also Japan should be proud of the fact that they also developed some great technology at that time as well (where do you think the helicopter was developed) that has been one of greatest life saving tools even up until today. Also soon after all the caose the United Nations was formed to helpkeep thisfrom ever happening again. Although there are still so many terrorist groups around the world such as KKK a Christeanhatefundamentalist group,Natzi a hatefundamentalist group, Taliban a Muslim hatefundamentalist group and a large number of others.

I always thought of how the Germans or Japanease felt about the Medal of honor Series and Call of Duty. I think they wouldn't be very bad towards it becuase it isn't depitcing them as being stupid or rabbid, they show a sort of heroic side to them. I wonder how we should feel also, though, that is quite simplke becuase we play games where we kill other americans like GTA and such.
