It seems to me that Call of Duty has just been taking steps backwards from Call of Duty Modern Warfare and Call of Duty World at War. Modern Warfare 2 and Black Ops just seem to be a step backwards in terms of how fun the game is.

It's funny how many people complain about this game (not talking about gaming_gunner but just in general) and yet it's the highest selling game of the year. Hypocrites much?

Yes I see what you mean. But people are so naive when it comes to extremely highly anticipated games and they don't realize that they had more fun on a previous game. And when it comes to video games, the amount of fun you have is all that matters at the end of the day. Am I wrong?

You're totally right. That's the whole reason for playing a game is that you have fun. I'm just saying I notice a lot of people online that trash talk the (then) next CoD coming out and yet now that it's here it's breaking all sorts of records. So obviously those people are just a very vocal minority or CoD is still good. I don't know. Peace.

i only recently just picked up CoD MW2 and i loved the single player it was epic and the multiplayer is fun to. i just think its the "cool" thing to hate on MW2 and too many people have there rose tinted glasses on about CoD4, imo BO is a huge multiplayer improvement over it. I wouldn't consider myself a massive fan i didn't go to the midnight launch or anything but i really enjoy the CoD games and find many memorable parts to it.

The only thing i can think of that i dislike is the idea of 3 CoDs being released close together (MW3, BO2? and Space Marines?) which i tihnk would be overkill i wouldn't mind if the next CoD didn't come out for 2 years to add something new and a bit of a gap.

IMO, MW2 was just a half step backwards from Cod4 while Black Ops and WaW was like flying backwards from the shockwave of a nuclear bomb.

i bought CoD MW2, but none of the others, and thats not because the game sucks or sumthing. But because they over hype it and just have yearly releases. Im sick of yearly releases of a game, i mean the next COD is already announced for 2011, so whts the point of buything this 1 when ill just have to go buy the next one and the next one. After MW2 im not gonna buy any more cod games for another couple of years.

No, its been going forward. If it went backwards after COD 4 then it'd be a good game.

I don't review multiplayer at all, I don't care about it, the single player is what I get the Call of Duty games for, and in my opinion, they are improving in quality each time a new one is released.

I have loved TreyArch forever, WaW was great, and BlOps has taken it further. Great SP in both games, and I enjoy the online for both. All Haters are like boring piles of puppy excrement to me. Carry on. Remember, too much whining and your face will stay like that. Infinity Ward stinks, always has, always will. TreyArch uber-alles.

I can't actually say backwards, but it just seems that it's just plateaued. It's just the same. Nothing new, different, or groundbreaking. Don't get me wrong, I enjoy playing the game, more campaign than multiplayer, but it's just the same. The Wager Matches are a new little twist, but other than that, I've been there, done that.

Could you make some examples? "Fun" is a very subjective metric to measure. I think the campaign in Black Ops blows any other CoD game out of the water in terms of ambition and comes close to CoD4's in execution. "Going backwards" makes no sense at all either if anything, it doesn't progress as much as it did from CoD3 to 4, but it's not like they removed perks, the unlock systems or anything of that sort.

BO is a huge improvement on balance than MW2 quickscope matches with akimbo shotguns... have you ever seen a soldier in iraq wielding 2 shotguns? Sniping is all about stealth and technique now, you gotta plan ahead before taking your shots, if you stay you get killed.. So moving to a secondary location is vital to reaching killstreaks, unless you're on the stupidly overused map called Nuketown then its just SMG's galore.

Every Call of Duty advances just alittle, but I feel like we can't move on from our first time experience with the franchise. I still believe CoD4 was the best, and Mr. ColorfulBehemothThing, loves CoD2. It never gets better, but you can still see the improvements in some aspects.

I agree. COD hasn't been good since Modern Warfare, I'm speaking about the multiplayer. Actually they're not going backwards, they're not moving forwards. Nothing's new except for the stages and the theme. There's no innovation.

I've liked them all so far. My only real complaint is how short the campaigns are. Other than that, the characters are all pretty awesome, story is always good, gameplay is fun as hell, graphics are good, audio is great. I don't really know what more people are expecting from a mainstream shooter franchise.

It's almost like COD's popularity is the main thing hurting it. Never seen that happen before...oh wait.

i dont really know. i still do think cod4 was the best one so far. if they are going forward, they're going slow i guess. im enjoying black ops, the single player was amazing and the online is really fun. and i will say that i think its better than mw2. but im also dissapointed in some stuff in black ops, like all the lag issues. but the thing i still dont understand, and im dissapointed with the most is the graphics (in black ops). i played through the single player and the graphics were amazing, but then i go online and all of a sudden it gets crappier. i mean, its still good, but a lot worse than the single player, and worse than mw2. i don't understand, how come the online graphics in mw2 and mw1 look better than the graphics in black ops? shouldn't it be the other way around since its the newer game? dont they have the same technology as b4? other than that i think black ops is a great game. for me its COD4>Black Ops>MW2 (havent played WAW). ppl on gamespot will always complain, its kinda what they are here for lol. but despite what ppl say, i think the COD games are great games, and they have the sales to prove it.

Well, I do think MW2 added WAY too much stuff, there was no way IW would have been able to balance all that crap. They bit off more than they can chew. Black Ops seems to get it just right but the technical issues are mind blowing. It's like they can never get it quite right(I'm referring to both Treyarch and IW). CoD4 was the last good CoD game and it will stay like forever in my opinion.

yeah thats one of the reasons i like black ops better, more balance. mw2 had too much killstreak and noobtubing retardedness. but mw2 looks better than black ops. and black ops has a crap load of issues as well. COD4 was awesome though, best variety of maps, great guns and just straight up gun fighting fun.

I've played CoD2 and CoD4 online a lot and I did enjoy the singleplayer a lot I've played MW2 multiplayer on my friend's PC and I hated it a lot , lot of weapons which are not needed at all , dual weapons made me hate the game a lot That Akimbos **** , hit detection , lag etc I'm not interested in BO also not because I'm a hater or something but I just lost interest in CoD games but I was a big fan of that game..

It became worse than Sims expansion packs every while you find a new game

All of that money you have and still hungry Activision..

Weapons? Killstreaks? The simple Recon plane, artillery and dogs in WAW made everything balanced and there was nothing to exploit.

Not IMO. I think MW2 had a better campaign then 4, perhaps not storywise but the missions were alot cooler. The multiplayer wasn't as balanced as COD4 and there are alot of cheap kills and kill streaks are over powered but it still manages to be alot of fun. I'm sure Black Ops is alot of fun too but I'm not getting it (anytime soon atleast) since it'll be really similar to the previous ones.

I am a little annoyed that the games keep shattering sales records even though they're annual releases which don't do anything groundbreaking and there are lots of other games that are just as good/better that get over shadowed.

I can support Kravyn81 because I am pretty sure he isn't just talking about Gamespot. Most of my friends were against black ops in the first place saying they wernt going to get it. and now they have it. So I am just assuming that was the normal trend that went around for some people.

I think the reason so many people buy it is because it is a big name/franchise and it's very much like a Hollywood action movie. It has a few likeable characters, a lot of explosions, some cool set pieces, and a plot twist or something. The problem with CoD/these big Hollywood action flicks is that they lack substance. They go for quantity over quality, flair over substance. They have this mentality that some huge epic under developed plot with some non-sensical twists is better than a smaller refined one. Or that the more explosions, the less they have to worry about anything else. The multiplayer on the other hand, I think they just tried adding too much stuff. Too many ways to kill people. CoD4 was good. You had guns, grenades, C4, claymores, melee, airstrike, and heli. Now there is all that, plus throwing knives, exploding crossbows, RC cars, attack dogs, way too many different types of helicopters, planes, multiple types of airstrikes etc. However this appeals to a lot of people. More ways to kill people obviously equals a better game, as opposed to less (but more refined) ways.

After a while you will be sick of the same engine and just enhanced graphics A new physics engine and a new engine for the whole game could or will give the game a big refresh for sure.. Even if you just don't care about the graphics the engine will feel a little bit old after a while.. same things over and over

I think it's a little unfair to say it's going backwards.

But "the fun factor" isn't really something you can measure.

Some people would prefere no story and amazing graphics. Some people would rather not play single player and kick straight in with online.

It's something that you can't measure when everyone wants something different from their games

.

I, for one, couldn't care less about multiplayer.

While it's fun, for a while, i don't play games as much as i once did and getting my ass handed to me by a twelve year old who was "sick" for a week when Black ops came out isn't my idea of a good time. I thought the wager matches were a good idea, but getting into one is a pain. everyone plays TD. not my cup of tea thanks.

....

I do however enjoy the single player of most games.

And MW2 was a decent continuation to MW1 that i thoroughly enjoyed.

Black Ops was a wierd one. I saw so many people slagging off the story, but i thought it was amazing. I thought it was told great and added something just a little different to most FPS's linear, boring story telling.

I don't think COD is going backwards. I think the majority of gamers simply don't appreciate half the effort that is put into the game!

I agree with Black Ops at least, i'm getting BFBC2 and will get BLOPS once it goes down in price. Not worth £40 looking at user reviews.

I think they are doing right but Treyarchdid a horrible job on PS3's black ops. I dont believethey dont have time to make PS3's as almost good as 360's like previous COD games. They probably did it purposely.

Well technically no...But in aspects of originality and gameplay yes by a wide margin. These new Call of Duties just arent fun for me anymore. Im not getting Black Ops or any other Call of Duty game being released.

[QUOTE="Kravyn81"]It's funny how many people complain about this game (not talking about gaming_gunner but just in general) and yet it's the highest selling game of the year. Hypocrites much?

Well, I don't know about everyone else, but I put my money where my mouth is. I adored CoD4 a helluva lot, and regretted trading it in on 360... so when a sale came around, I bought it on PC. :D I've since refused to purchase a copy of the newer CoD's, but that doesn't mean I don't at least rent or borrow a copy when one of my friends is willing. MW2 was... pretty bad. Spec Ops was a cool mode, but now I can't find anyone that can help me get the remaining stars... and those juggernauts make things damned impossible to do on my own. And if not for all the **** "die over 9000 times only to get killed at the end as part of the cutscene" moments that MW2 abused, it would have the shortest campaign I'd ever played of any CoD series. As to the comment about the insane sales numbers for it...? Peer Pressure counts for a lot, particularly with social human beings. Some people just can't enjoy things without having someone else there to go after. I on the other hand, treat multiplayer as just the "side reward"... what you check out AFTER doing all the other campaign and co-op stuff. Even then, adversarial multiplayer like CoD and Halo just don't really hold their appeal to me. I prefer more objective-based multiplayer, where it's more about being able to outwit than running around stupidly.

Yeah, the games have been going backwards. I sometimes buy the new ones just so I can form an opinion about it. I have not bought Black Ops and I doubt I will buy it. I have Modern Warfare 2.

I don't know about you guys, but I'm not a huge fan of Black Ops from what I've played at a friend's house. For example, we were on Nuke Town and all of my deaths on that map except for three were from people from the opposite team spawning right behind from where I spawned, therefore they get an immediate kill and I get an immediate death. I noticed this on a couple other maps that the spawns are just terrible, I have other gripes as well but this is my biggest problem so far.
