A friend of mine is selling his 80GB internal PS3 hard drive to me so that I can upgrade from my current 40GB hard drive, which is insufficient for me. The thing is, I'm not sure quite how I'm going to transfer all of my game saves to the other hard drive. Can I just copy all of those game saves onto a flash drive and then transfer those back onto the new 80GB hard drive after formatting it? Also, can I do the same thing with gama data utility (installed games) and with downloaded games as well? I happen to have the Wipeout HD/Fury bundle, which I downloaded for free, and would like to know whether I could copy that onto the drive and transfer it back onto the hard drive once I re-install that. Thanks and I greatly appreciate the help.

You can copy save datas that aren't copyright protected (the only one I can think of off-hand is the Rock Band series), those will transfer just fine. Game installs cannot be transferred, however. Anything that you have downloaded from your PSN account you can download again for free. Hope that helped!

Thanks a lot. My only concern with the downloaded games is that at the time when I downloaded WipeOut HD/Fury Bundle Pack, it was free as a limited time offer, but after that I believe its price re-appeared. Since I "purchased" it for free at the time I could still download it again for free, and wouldn't need to pay whatever new price they have listed? Thanks again, I very much appreciate it.

I wish saves where PSN account lock and not system lock, I'm on my 2nd PS3 and I've started having problems with Uncharted 3 sound and cutscenes. Then MGS4 music (not sound effects in general) now GT5. I'm expecting the thing to die sooner or later, and here I go again starting my games from scratch. Far Cry 2 and Resident Evil 4 are two games I never finished on my first system and didn't felt like starting again from scratch. Always been loyal PS fan since the first, but more and more senseless decisions like this are putting me off. Now the talk about the PS4 might not play 2nd hand games? So I can't borrow a game from a friend? I know Sony couldn't care less about me, but when my PS3 dies that's it for console gaming on my end.

If the game is on your PSN account then you can DL it as many times as you like, you already own the thing. As for copying HDD's I suggest cloning. You'll need to connect both HDD's to a PC, and then find some Cloning software (some are freeware). But I can only guess that it'll work. I know it works fine with Windows.

From what I've heard you can never connect a hard drive to a pc once it's been formatted for the PS3. As for the saves just put in the USB stick and transfer them all one by one.. I just did it about 2 weeks ago with mine. I just couldn't transfer my dark souls game, it could of been saved to the cloud if I had PS+, but I didn't really care I was on new game ++ and it was getting to hard anyways. Also, it will ask you to insert a disk with firmware version 4.11 or higher. I used max Payne 3

Games are transferable via USB Pen, but some games will refuse to play saves that are alien to the PS3 System.

You would be supprised at just how many people are okay with this setup over the the official Playstation boards. Something so simple as a save game transfer and you cant do it on most of the games that count..

I had a whinge over on the board and was basically told I was a tight sod for not buying into Playstation+. So for fourty pound a year I can back my saves up. Isnt that nice of Sony, something so simple and you have to stump up another fourty pounds for the pleasure, but if I dont keep up the payments, bye bye save games and anything bought over PS=, games an all..

I doubt I'll be buying into PS4 either if I'm honest. I dread to think what other shackles Sony has planned for that console which locks you out of the most basic aspects of gaming.

It's disrespectful to your consumers to treat them like that I think. It's just a shame that so many are willing to buy into such a system. Infact it's quite worrying..
