There is plenty of users on here that know more about this than I do so take my thoughts with a grain of salt. I think that the ps3 should be where it has breathing room with nothing underneath or on top of it only if you put it on top of a table.

As long as the console has plenty of breathing room and will not tip over, fall down, etc, etc. It should be fine.

I think the PS3 was built so that it can handle being on while on top of a cardboard box. I dont even see the problem of having it on the carpet. All my consoles are alive.

The old models produce more heat than the new ones, but either way, the Console should be kept alone to avoid the risk of overheating and ylod.
