is it? it prompted me to download it when i signed on... usually it doesn't when its optional..in this case he could still get online such cause 3.15 is optional

i always thought that the firmware updates are stored on the eeproms of the motherboard and could not be reverted, just like bios updates of the pc motherboards, however mine was just an intuition, i do not know it for a fact...MondasMYou made a good point, but I think the firmware is flashed to the hidden SPU on the cell. At any point the firmware can not be removed and reinstalled with a earlier version.
