I am a college student going into my second year, and i would like to return my PS3 so that i can focus on my studies without any distractions. I bought a new PS3 20 days ago, a bundle which included Uncharted 3 and a 1 year PlayStation Plus membership. I was wondering if i can return it back for a full refund? Everything is working just as new, heck i have not even used my Gamestop "points" or even activated it. The only thing that i have activated was the 1 year PlayStation Plus membership, but i have not even used it, have not downloaded any full game, any demo, nothing. I was wondering if i can still return it? I know on the back of the receipt it says you can only replace your merchandise in less than 30 days. But i was wondering if it applies to a new PS3? Thanks

Return to any GameStop store

Certain items may be returned by taking them to a GameStop store location in the United States. Items returned to a GameStop store location must be accompanied by the original packing list. Store return policies may vary and are subject to manager approval.Gamestop

Doesn't look like it. But you may be able to talk your way into a full refund. The art of barter is not totally dead. Luck.

Nope. Once you open a new item, you can't return it for a refund. This because they cannot sell it as "new" anymore.

You could have just picked up a phone and called them and gotten your answer in less time than it took you to type that.

I guess I dont understand why people post questions online then sit to wait for an answer when a simple phone call would answer it much quicker and easier.

I think if i call them, i give them the leverage. It is easier to talk to them and earn sympathy talking to the person directly. I just want to know if i can or if i cannot before appearing in the store without any knowledge, and perhaps avoid fooling myself.

Ever heard of self storage warehouse?

just go there lock your ps3 for a few months or years and then you saved yourself an amazing piece of computer hardware.

or simply sell it on gumtree or ebay if the store can't help you.

people are still buying ps3.

The new system isn't new once you've opened it.. If I go and buy a new system, I want it brand new. I don't want something that someone else has played, dust and dirt has got inside it and possible damage/marks to the system and controller.. it's not new once you open it. I also don't get why people make topics like this.. just call company and find out. Easier and faster than waiting for replies here.

My GameStop return story. Back when the Xbox elite first came out I bought the last one GameStop had in stock. The system RROD in lest then 2 hours of me having it, so I took it back the GameStop. The same staff that sold me the elite were still working. They couldn't exchange the system because they didn't have anymore in stock, they refuse to give me a full refund because I had opened the box (no cash refunds on open merchandise) . This was the most ridiculous situation, I just spent $500 of my hard earnd money and they refused to make it right. Long story short I had to wait over a week for them to get new shipments of elites to get my system replaced. I no longer do Business with GameStop, best buy, Walmart, target would have refunded my money no questions asked. They carry the same games and if I want used I go to my local mom and pop used games store, I know they appreciate my business and I'm glad to give it to them.

So they won't give full refunds because it is now consider pre-owned? Does that mean they are gonig to offer me a less substantial amount of money than the total amount is cost?

Yes, they will buy it back from you as a used pre-owned. You can't get a full refund, I don't know the going rates but you could probable get at least $120-$150 back from them. Because you've had your system and used it for 20 days it would be unreasonable for any store to give you a full refund. I have my issues with GameStop, what you are asking is just unfair to the store, you can try your luck selling it on Craigslist but ether way you will have to eat a loss and sell it fairly as a used item.

Considering it's opened and you've used up playstation plus, there's no way you'll get a full refund, it doesn't matter if you've downloaded any games or not, the code has been used, think about how ridiculous that is, lol. If Uncharted is opened then even more money will be taken off the top. Hell, the console has been used. More importantly though, why the hell would you buy a console knowing in 20 days you'd want to return it to focus on studies? Surely this isn't decision that you just came up with within the past couple weeks.

Anyway, if you live in Canada they currently have a rent a PS3 for the summer program, meaning that you can buy a PS3, keep it until the end of September and return it for nearly a full refund less $50. Also, when doing something like this in the future, at least use Walmart, they'll take anything back.

@EspaniaArmada: Within 30 days you can get a direct exchange, meaning they'll give you a new one. You can then sell that new unopened console for full price, online or through craigslist or whatever..

How hard can it be to balance studying and gaming? Unless you're really bad and can't trust yourself. You've went through all that trouble of spending your hard earned cash for the console, just keep it mate. If anything put it in your closet and don't hook it up until you free up some time for yourself.

Ok, so they will offer store credit I guess, erm, a direct exchange ? Would that not be if it was faulty ?

Why don't you give it to a family member to hold onto rather than having all this inconvenience ?

You cannot return an item bought new once it is opened.
