Can I use my PS4 HDD on my PS3?

So I'm planning on getting a new 1TB HDD for my PS4 and since my PS3 is stuck with its good old original 40gb (yes, got it back on launch days and never bothered to upgrade it), just wondered if I could get my 500gb from the PS4 and reformat or whatever once I put it into my PS3.

Plug and play, right?! no secrets here?

Yes. They both use 2.5" SATA drives.
