It's not the console that is not up to par, it's the game developers that are trying to utilize the console to full compacity.anewperfectday
Couldn't have said it better. I have friends always saying the 360 is better because of its games, and they say it's just as powerful as the PS3, while obviously the PS3 has a ton more horsepower, and it would be much more apparant if the gmae developers would put as much time and effort into games such as MGS4 or Killzone 2.
Space has nothing to do with graphics. It can help with varied environments, better sound, more textures (not reusing chars etc). Go look at killzone 2, it rivals pc's bestF1Lengend
Killzone 2 can't rival Crysis running on a 6000 dollar computer, but for a 400 dollar console it comes pretty dam close! :D

$6000?
I can buy a top-end PC for less than $1000.
Don't buy a prebuilt you idiot.
E8400/8800GT(or a 8800GTS (512)) can run Crysis on very high
E8400 - $200
8800GT 512 - $200-250 (8800GTS 512=280-290)
P35 mobo - $90
Wow, that sure did cost $6000!
Did you get like 4x SLi'd 8800 ULTRAs and like 16GB of DDR3 RAM and 20 1TB HDDs?!

What about RAM, a sound card, network card, case, power supply, windows xp/vista, hard drive(s) and probably an extra fan?
edit: Oh and how about a processor?
i know what you meen but in the end i would like to know if the developers could make much better graphics...because i dont feel like im getting 600$ worth here. If this is all they can produce then all the hype around ps3 is bull. I love how much more space we have on the blueray discs but i thought this system would have better graphics than this.

The console is as important as your television. On a Sony Bravia XBR4 I assure you, the PS3 would blow your mind, what kind of TV are you playing on?

I said under $1000, that adds up to half that, the other half is obviously for RAM/PSU/CASE/FAN/HDD/etc
And I did have a processor in there... see the E8400?

mother boards have built in network cards and sound cards, ram is 200 for 4gb, power supplies can come with a case for about 100, 500 gb hard drive is 100 dollars, dvd burner is about 25, xpvista oem can come as cheap as 50
so 475 for all the missing stuff
so a top of the line pc is only about a grand before tax and u will be able to run crysis on high ... if u go to about 130 u can run it on ultra
but to be honest ff13 has cgi like graphics which crysis on ultra does although crysis goes for a more realistic look and ff13 has a slightly more anime look
Well your in luck because I believe the answer to your question is on page 96 in the new Playstation Official Magazine. Bethesda's Executive Producer, Todd Howard, discusses developing for PS3 in probably the most informative and inspiring letters I've ever read on topic.
The following are the last 3 paragraphs, and should provide a nice summary..
One of the benefits we have with Fallout 3 on the PS3 is not just the 'Oblivion learning experience', but over the last year Sony has made big strides with their tools. There's two ways to learn how to eek out power from a console: either try lots of things over and over, or use a tool that shows you exactly what's going on and what you need to do. You may have never heard of GCM Replay, but this tool allows developers to see exactly what the Graphics Processing Unit on the PS3 is doing.
When we were doing Oblivion, this tool didn't exist; it was trial and error. This is the type of tool that allows us to iterate, debug, and optimize much faster than before. In addition, Sony's tuner program lets you see what is going on in the PPU, and over the last year they've added functionality to better control the SPUs.
The good news is that it shows in the game. We're able to put a lot more on screen in Fallout then we ever dreamed of in Oblivion. So if the future of PS3 doesn't excite you, go buy some Blu-ray movies and yell "suckers!" at your HD-DVD friends; that works too.
This is just one example of many to come I believe that will be amazing, jawdropping and robust, and that is worth waiting for.

i never said i bought a prebuilt computer you idiot, my friend has been building his PC for a little over a year, he has like 8 gigs of ram, like 10gigahertz processor, a 2 tb HDD, and just the craziest stuff you would ever buy for a PC (a$500 dollar mouse and keyboard! :P), and it run crysis completely flawless on his 2000 dollar 40in moniter, (he's went kinda crazy with his PC).

yes you can get all that stuff for about the prices you "claim" and a top of the line PC is very far beyond a grand. the PC you're talking about is average at best.

This is why I bought a (60gb) ps3, not just for the games, the (near) perfect ps2 b/c, or Bluray, its cause I love reading about all the cool tech the good devs are using in the background. You (generally) don't hear about these kind of innovations on pc's or the 360. Its always about the video cards or the ram or the 3dmark score with pc's. I still love my xps filled inspiron laptop though. :P

english buddy its called englishwhen a new system is out, the first wave of games that come out though looking good are nowhere near the quality of games that are released later in the life of the console... So we still have to wait maybe in 2009 the 3rd wave of games will give us a real glimpse at the PS3's power... Also an example is Uncharted, guess no last-gen console can ever dream of producing such visuals... (well not even a next-gen console like Wii :P )
But to be fair technically you have to judge not only the looks of the game but how its running... I think getting a game running at 60fps with high-res visuals, with long distance vistas and screen full of thing going on is already a great achievment..
