Yep as I have said before. Their are 2 new SOCOMs coming over time. One by a different team for online only. Than the true team will make another SOCOM also. How odd is that??
I too think its odd. I LOVE Socom, but never played the single player. So an online only game doesnt really bother me. But i am almost positive it will PLAY completely different than any socom before, and Socom 4 when that comes out
I love the single player games in every single Socom game.
The Socom 1 game has some areas that the bad guys like to hide close to gasoline barrels that with a 3 round burst will blow them up. Also there are a few bad guys that like to use MGL's on you and your team that once you learn to counter them they are worthless against you and your team. And then you can get close and personal with a lot of the bad guys, the trick is get as close as possible and dash rite at them because if your close enough they will try to swap there primary weapon for there secondary weapon that allows you time to get close enough to knock the bad guys teeth out. One mission HQ wants you capture one bad guy if possible but you really don't have to if you don't want to (I always try to make this capture everytime when I can). There are about 10 ranks total although they are the same mission each time you rank up it get's harder each time.
Socom 2 has a lot of the same things as Socom 1 but it adds some tough areas (one that you and your team has to leave without defeating the bad guys. This game has 6 ranks to complete each time it get's harder to beat.
Socom 3 has a lot of the former games with some extra features like armed dune buggies, heavily armed HUM-V, alteard pick-ups with a 50 cal mounted in the back for you take away from the bad guys and use, and a nice armored boat to use in a couple of places. Also Bravo on the PSP has some missions that work like cheat codes if you complete certain objectives in the Bravo game. Also you get to back where the bad guys ran you and your team out of the region but this time you get to kick butt and take names including the leader where you and your team get's drag him out of his tiny hole in the ground while he tries to bribe you and your team. This game has the same number of ranks as Socom 2.
Socom Combined Assault made some changes that makes the game completely different from the others. This being the smoke grenades really work, rifle butt hits no longer are a instant kill like the former games did, it uses a badge system to unlock weapons unlike before most of the games would unlock weapons as you ranked up in the game. Then there are groups of missoins that you go into the same area that you have completed to obtain different objectives (that once there all done you earn a badge for each objective after you have finished all the objectives). The main game has a time limit of 4 hours that has to be beat to gain one badge, then you have one badge that you have to have a certain number of kills to obtain, then you have one that you have to have a certain number of headshots to obtain, then you have one that you have to complete an objective without any member of your team making a kill of any kind. This just some of the type things you have to do to get extra weapons in this game. There is a total of 32 badges and you only have 3 ranks to gain. There is a way of getting a little help if you manage to complete certain objectives in Bravo 2 on the PSP that helps a little in the game. Each rank get's a little harder because not only do the bad guys get better but they are wearing various types of body armour. One area in each rank there is 5 bad guys that are wearing some tough body armour (I have shot these guys at close range with a DE 50 and all it does is knocks them off there feet and get's them PO'd big time). These heavily aroured guys can be taken out with a powerful rifle if stay back far enough and manage to snipe any where between 10 to 15 rounds in the chest. Or any time you can get a single head shot (even with a pistal at close range) or a knife attack. The way to get that close is use smoke grenades or extreme stealth, both methods work perfectly every time once you get the hang of it.
These games have more replay value than any game I have ever played in single player missions.
