Hi, first of all, I own a 60 gig PS3, and I want to know what are the effects of the PS3 overheating? Sometimes when it's been on for 30-60 minutes, it starts getting louder and noisier, so I'm thinking about getting a cooler. Is it worth it, because I've heard complaints that people's PS3's were messed up. Should I just play it and not get a cooler, and if so, how long can I stay on it before something malfunctions?
Second question is, what if I buy an HDMI cable and just connect it to my regular SDTV? Would it make the quality better or would it be the same, because I just have an ordinary TV, nothing high definition, just a regular one that the graphics are fine. So, I'd appreciate the answers and thanks.

There is only one air output duct vent (like the deathstar) on the PS3 on the top (visible when standing up vertically).

Is it adequately ventilated (nothing blocking the output) and is the ps3 free to suck in "room temperature" air or is it next to a baking hot TV set?

I've had mine on for days at a time no issues.

Well.. My ps3 doesn't get louder after 30-60 minutes play.

Whereas for the HDMI cable question... You'll need a HD tv or a HDCP compliant monitor in order to use it. SDtv does not have a HDMI port.

Dude, if your PS3 gets louder and hotter after 30-60 minutes, get it fixed by Sony because it's not supposed to. Mine doesn't get any nosier even after 7 hours of straight playing. It gets hot but it is fine because the hottness is it cooling aff so if it's not hot, then something is wrong. You can buy a cooler if you want but not needed. As for the HDMI cable, how can you plug it into a normal tv and what would be the point anyway. It is meant for HDTV.

Playstation 3's don't really overheat... Unless they're in an enclosed place. If your PS3 is having problems when playing for 60 minutes, then call Sony.
