You know what MS does when Apple releases their Operating System Mac OS X?
I'm pretty sure they're doing the same thing. Photocopy photocopy photocopy.

That being said in the short term there is nothing for anyone else to do because its such an ambitious thing and the extent of how successful it is is still unknown.

I'm sure that if one of them did, they would instantly be hailed as "innovators" and "marketing geniuses" the second it was announced.

MS can copy it alright but only for X360 users with hard drives.  Because an interface like this is going to take up 1-2GB's easy on a hard drive.

MS probably **will** try to copy this but Xbox360 **Core** users will probably be shut out b/c this interface will likely take a lot of hard drive space.

BTW, if the current X360 interface takes up 7GB's than a PS HOME-like nterface would probably take up close to 10GB's and MS will **HAVE** to come out with a bigger hard drive.  20GB's just won't cut it.

Of course they can copy it. Sony copied Xbox Live, The Sims, and Mii's to make Home so it will be really easy for the companies they copied to just expand what they created originally and copy the combination of stuff that Sony copied.

Didn't know xbox live had virtual houses, cinemas, and 3D characters. Sony is borrowing ideas from a game named Second Life.
and don't get me started on the controllers.

I doubt any competition is even concerned with this. The reality is people just want to play games not wonder around in a 3d world, decorating houses and buying furniture. I prefer things simple one click....If I want a 3d world I would go buy me The Sims. I know I wouldn't use it.

The 360 being almost all shooters (all the exclusives, generally) turns me off from ever buying that system. I think Sony is doing right here by setting up a variety of things one could do with the PS3.

sony did patent the whole thing not just the name. And it can't be compared to the sims cause your stuck playing offiline and the sims online was a failure, atleast here when u get bored you can just go and play a game, either way its free i mean it's like buying a pair of shoes and getting a free pair of socks you can't complain. Second Life for me sucked, graphics are horrible in my opinion no where near the ones i saw in the home trailer.

After seeing that trailer it really amazed me, i didnt think it would be somthing that big. I think someone will try copying it somehow. But this is huge for Sony, myspace and things like that are huge now. This is a 3d version. Its amazing.

Then again it wouldn't hurt you to honestly admit that this is kind of a cool thing that maybe isn't your bag.
You also might want to admit that hordes of people are going to probably eat this up happily?

Or perhaps you don't want to admit anything positive about Sony?

I don't read old patents so I don't know anything about the Nintendo-Sony controller thing, just that Nintendo made it work and successfully integrated it into software and public image. But saying MS copied computer online for Xbox Live is wrong and irrelevant. First, it doesn't matter if MS copied it or not, we are discussing whether Sony copied Live. You are just trying to shift the focus of the arguement to avoid saying Sony copied Live. Second, if anything the original PS2 online was more similiar to PC online because it was a free-for-all and didn't have a unified architecture like Xbox Live. I'm not saying I agree or don't agree with Home or Xbox Live, just that Sony hasn't been the most original of companies this generation and only fanboys would deny it.

I cannot think for everyone so I can only give my personal opinion. I just like things simple click and go.. not iinterested in these kind of things on a console. If I was interested I would have The Sims on my PC but I got tired of that game in a hearth beat. When it comes out we will see what it will be like but for now that's my opinion.

I think they can copy Sony, sure they can. But the way Sony has Home structured, it is amazingly FUTURE PROOF.

So for the people who has watched the Keynote, and lets say hypothetically speaking:

MS does a "home" or equivalent, and then they add cars from Forza that is "Drivable" because right now, Sony has a "trophy" room. Well guess what, Phil said that the trophy's have "behaviors", they can script it! So if they do drivable forza we'll do Gran Turismo.

Lets say, Wii starts a 'new channel', i don't know, right now they have weather? let's say they stick to their roots and start a "anime channel" to allow Miis stream non HD anime like Naruto off of the Mii channel. Sony (owns alot of movie rights and studio, and close partnership with Bandaii) can air Gundamn on their Theather.

And the biggest hit, USER CREATED CONTENT, Sony fanboys and fanatics will respond by creating things in their own private space (and they can make these space public to everyone) with the sets of tools that are provided to them to counter attack any moves by Nintendo and MSoft.

This Home idea combines community, games, and commerce (money is invovle, YOU BET THEY WILL CHARGE YOU FOR THE HD MOVIE YOU WILL BE DOWNLOADING to your HDD) or that extra Buster sword you swing around for that extra 25 cents.

Home is pretty much future proof.

I am no fanboys, i dont even own any of the 3 sys. I have a ps2 that i don't play anymore due to my busy schedule, but I am thinking about a PS3 right now. This is very innovative....LittleBigPlanet is also very innovative...

What do you guys think?

Please notes that Home is accessed through XMB, this is NOT a 'service or game' that you have to pay extra for. You don't need to enter Home if you don't want to, you dont need those tropies if you dont want to!! You can still play games old school; I hope that clears up some things for everyone. But since i see your tag/sig and such....you are obvious one of the more sociable players that likes to showcase yourself. Sony has been as original as every other corperation.  That includes Microsoft, IBM, Nintendo, AMD, News Corp, and so on.  It is a common practice for rival companies to take features from each other.  It is healthy as it allows for each respective product to have more features for the end user.  The bottom line is that once a company reaches a certain point they piss some people off.

For anyone to bicker on about someone copying another is sort of ignorant.  I am not targetting you here.  If your logic is to be taken literally, however, using the DVD/CD in a console is copying Sony (who started using discs in the PS1, Nintendo said it was stupid to use discs) and blaming ADIDAS making shoes that are white like a pair of Nikes.

It is absolutely, positively absurd to fight over the supremacy of a console.  It is fine to have a liking toward your console of choice than the others, however when you lose sleep and really get personal about it, it gets annoying.  Buy the console you like and enjoy playing it.

They're probabilities that that will happen yes but if the original product gets copied the second product will not be the best SONY invented PSHome and it has to remain that way sure Microsoft will probably do all in it's power to beat THAT and Nintendo well....I don't know bout nintendo but we all know how Nintendo acts today we know something and tomorrow Nintenddo already cooked something better than waht they thought at first. So we all hope PSHome don't get copied or immitated 'cuz it will be awesome oooohhhh!!! I can't wait...

They could certainly improve upon it as Sony has upon their designs, I just kind of doubt they will. Nintendo has always considered online a token feature at best and irrelevant at worst and Microsoft would have to entirely rework their online service just to emulate PS HOME, much less surpass it.

[QUOTE="GIJames248"][QUOTE="Gzus666"][QUOTE="Franchise2k6"]SURE... especially if Sony copied ideas from Microsoft and Nintendo such as Xbox Live and the Controller etc.Cole2026
actually Sony had the patent on that motion sense before Nintendo did. and XBL copied it from computer games. BAM

Trust me, I'm not losing sleep over videogame consoles. Also I never stated that I disagreed with Sony copying other companies; I just said they did and they have been particularly bad during this last generation of consoles. I realize that everyone winds copying something since the human thought process has to relate an idea to another idea to  give the original idea relevancy to intrepret and act on it. I'm just addressing the fanboys who are saying Sony did not derive features, inspiration, and ideas from MS and Nintendos approaches. Likewise you can say that Nintendo copied Atari and Sony copied Nintendo in the grand scheme of videogames. I support Sony I'm just not ready to say the PS3 is the best piece of hardware ever made and that Sony is a perfect company. Both have their flaws.

[QUOTE="xuimod"][QUOTE="DoctorWan"]Please notes that Home is accessed through XMB, this is NOT a 'service or game' that you have to pay extra for. You don't need to enter Home if you don't want to, you dont need those tropies if you dont want to!! You can still play games old style. I hope that clears up some things for everyone. But since i see your tag/sig and such....you are obvious one of the more sociable players that likes to showcase yourself. Please throw aside all bias for the moment and rejoice the era of user created content, Game 3.0!

DrWan, you a DO? Or Chiropracter? Looks like it from the photo.

Glad you noticed thoracic prone pressure, D.O. for those of you who doesn't know, D.O is doctor of osteopathy, same 4 yrs of medical school as M.D.s; same praticing rights and salary as M.Ds. Only difference is that I also do manual manipulations, such as high velocity thrust to correct a joint, release a restricted rib, or low velocity soft tissue to increase muscle compliance...well yah sorry..not related to topic.
