Can it exceed 1080p?
Don't laugh at me please.

I am sure it could but never will with TV standards where they are.wooooodeTechnically, HDMI v1.3 (the standard supported by the PS3) does support a 2560x1440 (1440p) resolution, and monitors exist that can accept those resolutions over HDMI. The roadblock here is the lack of support in the PS3's firmware (likely culprit) and/or the RSX chip (less likely).
[QUOTE="KDIDDY78"]Yeah.But eventually they will. By the time we see TVs with higher resolution than 1080p, we'll probably be playing the PS4. I've seen where the technology is out there, but it's so far from being ready to put in the market... some hospitals actually use it for some surgeries that require the use of a camera. I believe the next level in resolution will be called 4K. Here's a link that explains it in terms of cinema... which is what we want our home TVs to be like. http://www.pcmag.com/encyclopedia_term/0,2542,t=4K+resolution&i=57419,00.aspno...b/c tv's dont exceed 1080p

Yes, It can by linking up multiple Playstation 3's to render each image as a conglomerate into one.
This is not a viable option, because this is a manufacturer demostration/technique.
The PS3 (and 360 for that matter) can barely push 1080P without choking on its on textures. Each machine only has 256 MB Vram. They do have the capability to shift memory around (readdressing), but then something else suffers. They both have all of their games written for 720P. 1080P is only seen through the use of scalers and/or texture trickery. Games like Killzone 2 only run at 1080P through the selective "disuse" of antialiasing, where the game is purposely blurred in order to make up lose fps, or at best they don't use in anti-aliasing or af to sharpen textures (this would drag it down huge).
Before someone steps up and speaks of the power of ps3, remember that most of the PS3s power comes from the cell processor and not the gpu. The gpu is based on the Nvidia 7800GTX, and anyone whos in pc gaming knows this is an old chip.
These are technological limitations, not fanbased ones. Good games can still be made when your on a graphics budget. We won't see 1080P really be used heavily and properly (with all bells and whistles) until the next console comes out. This isn't the old days where a new console was twice as powerful. While the PS3 is alot more powerful than the PS2, this is the first time they are venturing out of standard definition (640X480) and they jumped straight to (1280X720)+. The gpu would have been alot more powerful just to break even, and on top of it they went to (1920X1080) in some cases, which was already hard for those chips when pc users were using them extensively.
If your a console player who doesn't use a pc, you may have a problem believing this because of all the hype that the console makers have shoved down your throat, so please don't hurt the messenger. The success of a console is based on games, not solely on graphics.
Yes. Because ps2 had 1080i on game and it was not new gen now! So I think support for above HD is possibility now, just need support software game or demo.samosirYes, but it took Polyphony HOW MANY YEARS before they were able to do it? And how many millions on Sony's dime did they spend to make it happen?

You typed the words right out of my finger. i was going to say EXACTLY the same thing. True story.
Actually, there are computer monitors that can be used that go well past 1080P that are reasonably priced now. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824001317 $219.99 23" 2048X1162 http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824176071 $1139.99 30" 2560X1600 Both can be used. Unfortunately, the PS3 software won't allow res. higher than 1080P.When every people could afford a 100" tv(needed more than 1080P to dont going sh1ttea) and theres peace and love in the middle east and the rest of the world...ah no guess it couldn't anyway.-
