Okay today in Melbourne it's bloody 43 degrees and tomorrow the same but i really want to play a good few hours in the afternoon, problem is im scared it'll overheat etc.

Just then (my ps3 is well ventilated and stuff) i left it on for an hour~ to charge the controller and as i touched with back, it was HOT, i also felt the side (where the air comes out) and that was smokin' as well...

I'm scared tomorrow, especially in this weather, i might encounter some problems or something...

Any past experiences?

Indeed, when it does just leave it to rest and then come play it at a later time or just don't play it for 9 hours straight...

The ps3 begins to overheat when the fan gets put on high, trust me it is loud and when that happens just turn it of for a little while, than come back later. No matter how hot you think it is it will only begin to overheat when the fan goes extremely loud.

No,I dont think it'll overheat because PS3 is already built to be turned on for months.."Folding @ home" everyone?! And besides I play for almost 18 hrs. straight everyday without turning off my PS3 because I've just graduated from college 2 yrs. ago and I just decided then I would take a break before finding a job. So my experience on my PS3 I dont think it'll over heat but just incase dont play for 8 hrs. straight as a precaution. Anyway you should just enjoy your console thats what its for anyway. By the way I never encounter any overheating on SNES, Playstation, PS2, PS3, and Wii..and I play a alot since I was a kid and I also dont care if its too hot or anything. The only console that Overheated on my collection is my Xbox 360..it got the RROD. I hoped that helps.

I think it's certainly possible, but I've played the PS3 for several-hour stretches in an area that's decently ventilated, and it's gotten warm but never really hot.

It monitors its own heat, and will shut itself down if it reaches a point that is damaging. It will flash the green and/or red lights. If that happens I suggest you give it a nice long break, but I wouldnt worry about killing it.

Hm...laptops usually have the same problem, so I suggest getting a laptop cooling pad, or a cooling fan that you plug in to a USB port. Idk if it will work when you plug it in to the USB ports on the PS3, but it's worth a try.
