Actually, any 1st or 3rd party USB cable would work. So, to answer your question: Yes

The battery should last longer than you could play between recharges. I never have a problem with low battery. The way I recharge the controller is usually from the PS3 (I hardly ever turn the system off) or any USB port that I happen to have powered up.

There's a 10ft. Niko(?) one that they usually sell in the controller section of stores. It has the same weird cable wrapping that Monster hdmi cables have.

Cables are one of the items best buy most overprices.

this is the sad truth with all PS3 contollers, as with all rechargeable batteries over time they lose its ability to hold a full charge to the point where its no good anymore. They need to sell a battery replacment kit or something (they didnt make it easy to change but any fool should be able to do it with the right tools and instuctions.)

You could also buy a charge station and not have to deal with being tethered to the PS3.

All you need is a small screwdriver. I've opened mine a couple times to replace broken R2 L2 springs. The only problem is if you accidently pull the L2 R2 contacts off, and they just slide back in. I'm sure battery kits will pop up on ebay just like everything else.

Yeah. You can use anything with a powered USB port to charge the controller. The PS3 or controller does not have to be on to do it.
