I have a laptop monitor which is hd...its barely smaller than my crap tv...The laptop does not have an hdmi port. It would be totally sick if theres a way I can hook up my ps3 to the laptop and use that as the screen. Does anyone know if this is possible or has tried it?

Well technically yes it is, but it would require some tech savvy and some custom work. Its not a simple cable plug in job.

I too would like to know if this is a possibility.

My girlfriend has no HDTV in her room but she just got a new laptop that has an HDMI port. Would make playing the Ps3 in her room a lot more enjoyable.

Only if it has a hdmi/dvi/etc port IN it can, other wise no (unless you want to take it apart and completly mod it like the other dude said)
