I recently borrowed the MGS series from a friend, looking forward to playing them on my old PS2; however, all of its controllers are broken now. I got a PS3 recently, and I'm wondering if I can use one of these adapters to use my PS3 controller on the ps2. Thoughts?

Both of those adapters are for PS2 to PS3. You have to plug in a PS2 controller to use them on a PS3. PS2 does have a USB port so maybe that would work, but I've never heard of anyone using a PS3 controller with PS2. PS2 controllers are cheap anyway so just buy a new one.

Texas is correct. those will not do what you are looking for. and i don't beleive that anything exists that will do what you want. but you can get used PS2 controllers for less than $10.

Ok thanks, a little disappointing but I guess that'll work.
