I wanted to know because I have a 720p tv and wanted to buy some blue ray movies.

Yes it looks a LOT better than upconverted DVD's. An upconverted DVD is a 480p signal stretched out to 1080i/p. A Blu-Ray is 1080p native and scaled down to support lower resolutions.

Yes, Blu-ray looks much better than upscaled DVD's. Everything is just much clearer.
