Update 8 April 2009: Apparantly people still stumble unto this message board and don't read the whole thing... Because this topic is over a year old and people are still e-mailing me about advice or giving me advice. If your having problems please read further into this topic because I think I have posted my suggestions to fix it or improve your internet connection.

Old

Hello all I live in Dubai,UAE andI bought a PS3 two weeks ago and I was only able to connect to it for only a few days. Now I keep getting this error message Saying that I've been disconnected from the PlayStation Network and gives me an error code (80710092). This is a sorta last resort on my part cause I've gone to other forums and took their advice and opened ports and use DMZ, contacted Sony PlayStation customer support (answer still pending), contacted my ISP (which is Etisalat), and contacted my Linksys' customer support line.

I doubt I can help as you have already done what i would have said about opening ports etc,all i can say is make sure you hardwire the connection not use wireless then start over,it would be a good idea to find your router ip and alter the router direct from its own page.

How do I make it run through a cycle? And I am using a wired connection and my wireless connection has a wep security so no one can interfere with the connection.

And on the subject ofchanging the settings when it was working and not working. Well the first few days it wasn't working I kept on changing the settings. Then a few days of doing nothing it started working. On the last day I could log in but I keep getting loged out when I was chatting (on the PS3)to my friend in Singapore. Then I changed a few settings during that but I was still able to log in but keep getting logged out later. Then afte constantly logging in and being logged out I could no longer log in and it gave me the same old error message. Then yesterday I called the Linksys helpline and they told me to change all these settings on my PS3 and router. Changes like disabling security and disabling UPnP. But it still didn't work.

Have you tried bypassing the router? Even if it isn't a permanent solution try going straight from the modem to the PS3 - that would help you find where the problem is...

email letters@7days.ae as I did last night.

We need to make sure Etisalat and Sony own up to this problem and get it fixed, there's going to be a whole heap of upset kids on Christmas morning when they find out they can't donwload SFA off the playstation network.

You're far from alone on this problem!

I wish I could just like wait outside the shops or in the shops for the people who are planning to buy a PS3 and tell them not to buy it yet until they demand from Sony and Etisalat to fix the PSN. Maybe I should go out with a petition.

I think the main problem with the PSN is because Etisalat sucks(maybe I should get du)and that the servers must be down because of the holiday playing frenzy and that most of the resources are diverted to other countries like US, UK, Japan Singapore etc.

Hi,

Perhaps I'm just not understanding the problem, but why does a network problem with the PSN have anything to do with Sony? As much as we'd like to blame Sony, I find it hard to believe that when they receive a packet of data, their PSN servers look at it and say, "Oh, this is from the USA...let's respond fast!" or "Oh, this is from the UAE, let's wait 10 seconds and then send a response." I suppose a server could be written that way, but I find it hard to believe that anyone would go through this trouble.

I presume PSN has multiple servers and some are in Japan, some in the USA, etc. It is possible that your closest server might be overloaded...but hopefully Sony has enough sense to upgrade such servers soon.

I would think it is most likely your internet provider? Why don't you try something like http://www.speedtest.net/ (using your computer and not your PS3...but it probably doesn't matter) to see how your internet compares with others? This would be a test that takes the PS3 out of the equation...

I tested it at the site you said and it said that download speed is 968 kbps and upload 241 kbps. And most likely it ismy internet provider that sucks. Can you believe this Etisalat (my ISP) has the same IP Address for all of their users. So if let's say Sony blocks that IP Address because of some other idiots actions everyone on Etisalat gets blocked too. Stupid ISPeh?

He is saying remove your router completely and connect your PS3 directly to your modem and he is right, you should make sure it is the router before you start messing with the configuration IMHO

Hey I live in Abu Dhabi and I am also a Etisalat user using their Al-Shamil Heavy User - 2Mb service, I dont have a PS3 atm as i am picking mine up on the 30t so i can tell you then if it works or not. Regarding Etisalat I think that they are having problems with there lines as my connection speed is not running as it should be. I have a Xbox 360 aswell and that still works but its not work at the speeds it used to.

Are you using there Al-Shamil service which comes with a cable modem? Cause i am using there cable modem which i connect directly to my PC then i use a Hub to connect everything else and I never get any problems, but i will test it out in a few days time and will let you know. I read your letter in the 7 Days today aswell :D So add my gamertag and i can keep you updated on anything i find out i'll try phoning etisalat over here as here in Abu DHabi they seem to be alot more informative than in Dubai.

Regarding Du here is a link to there prices tho they are basically the same prices as etisalat.
http://www.du.ae/en/category/athome/broadband/

Try making a europe or american account not a UAE one cause then in theory you should connect to the EU or US servers, you are probably better off trying a EU one as they are much quicker than the US ones. So make a EU account with a EU address and all.

Okay, just saw you said you have a combo modem/router, been up a bit. Have you tried Sony's support yet...maybe they can tell you what the error code means. Just offhand, when googling that model router I see a bunch of people complaining about firmware updates. Do you know someone else with an internet connection that you could test your ps3 on...as inconvenient as that sounds...

No one here has asked if you're going wired or wireless. If you're trying wireless, try going wired and make sure you get the latest updates as wireless has been a problem in the past, might still be. Other than that, I see people have suggested you bypass your router, so makes sure you try that, and if still nothing it means that the router itself could have the ports closed, and a lot of routers that are provided by ISPs are locked down, so then you would have to look at getting your own router to use instead of theirs (if you are able to connect a different one that is).

That seems to be a clever idea and hopefuly that will finally fix rich_jammer's problem and also to everyone whos having the same problem. I told Rich to make a new user profile for his PS3 and make a new PSN account for that which will have an address for either US or Singapore(Where I live right now).

Sorry guys for not responding and stuff. And oh I haven't tried any of those things yet cause I was enjoying my Christmas holiday so much that I really didn't care anymore. But now I'll try all that stuff you suggested and see if it works. Oh yeah someone did ask whether I was using Wireless or not and the answer is that I use a wired connection (please don't take that bold lettering as an insult) and I did read the 7 Days article but I didn't read it from the paper I read it at the 7days site http://7days.ae/showstory.php?id=64514 . However I do take issue that the guy thought that I was bashing Sony for this problem. I did kinda comment on that it was free but I didn't mention in that that Wii store is free and that works fine too. Anyway if you want to read more about my letter come to my blog.

Oh yeah, jcblueside gave me his US account and I tried it like a week ago and it didn't work. Maybe I'll try it soon like I said I was too caught up in the holiday season.

OK I tried connecting to my own account still doesn't work, I tried using JCblueside's US account no dice, and then I tried signing up to make a new account NOPE! When I triedmaking the new account it still gave me that errorcode and told me that it couldn't connect to the server.

Oh anyone out there with a du account who has no problems with PSN cause after all this trouble I'll switch to du.

Oh finally I got it to work! How about you other guys is it finally working for you? What I did was change the IP Address on my PS3 from 68 to 100. Then I went to my router on the PC and forwarded my ports and DMZ from 68 to 100. Then I did the whole power cycle thing. Then viola it works. Thanks you guys for being helpful and I hope that your problems will be solved too and I hope this lasts longer then the last time.

It seems that this thread is viewable on google. I even tried it and searched for my problem again and this thread is the first on the search page. So that people would stop e-mailing me I'll give a short guide on how to fix their problem. Oh right now PSN is working fine and if it's not working for you it's not a problem with Etisalat or anything it's probably a problem with your internet or something.

OK first you need to go to portforwarding.com and learn how to access your router, set up a static IP Address, andforward ports.

From portforwarding.com you'll learn about static IP Addresses and putting in the subnet mask, default gateways, andDNS servers. Once you take note of all these and have made/chosen a static IP Address for your PS3 you should go to your PS3 and edit the internet setings there too. For an Example the static IP Address on my PS3 is 192.168.1.100 on my 360 it's192.168.1.66, and on my other PC it's 192.168.1.65.

You'll learn how to access your router and to do that you have to use your internet browser (Internet Explorer or Firefox or whatever you use) and the way to get there is usually 192.168.1.1 and the username is usually admin and the password is usually admin. From there you should go to Applications and Gaming and then to Single Port forwarding or Port Range forwading. Here's a preview.

Preview of router access

Here's how it should look like: (note that it even has other applications and gaming ports in there and when putting in the port figures ignore Azurl and XboxLive stuff)

Ports

Or you can make it easier and just edit the DMZ and put your PS3's static IP Address there:

DMZ stuff

One person e-mailed me and said that they already forwarded all the ports and stuff but still didn't work. But then they e-mailed me again and said that the problem was fixed because in the router settings the security settings were changed. It should look like this:

security

I have tried all the steps and suggestions posted above, alas, nothing happened. I am not an avid online gamer but I had to try out COD4 online---that's why I had to surf the web to check for some solutions.

I have come to the conclusion that this ISP just ruined what could have driven me to play online. These guys block sites, block pop3 emails, block online file transfers, block VOIP...and now they block PSN! Geez..What did a casual console gamer ever do to deserve this?!! I partly blame UAE PS Support for not taking immediate actions.

I am quite sure Du will let you log on PSN. Be careful though, exceeding their bandwidth limits would be a real pain in the pocket. Unlike our "beloved" ISP, I think Du's rates aren't fixed at all. This is one reason why I've been really skeptic on joining the Du bandwagon.

If you somehow get your way around it, could you kindly post the solutions on this same thread? I'll constantly be checking out on this one. Thanks a lot!

I wonder if connection from here in the Philippines to the PSN would be worse than there in UAE.:? It would be worse if i buy Warhawk and there will be no connection to PSN, it would be a waste of money.:( Oh, and internet connection here sucks, i am frequently disconnected from an online game. When i play Socom: FTB2 online on PSP i get disconnected everytime i join the game or while playing online which sucks.

Etisalat is bulls--t They are blocking every thing without any reason. Now there was only one entertainment left in my life which was online gaming on the ps3 and now its gone too. Mother Fu--ers. This is the only company in the world to whome you pay to get a bag of sht and they have proved it yet again.

This topic is super old but I'm just posting a new message to let everyone know that the issue has been resolved. I have had no problems for over a year. If I start having new problems with PSN in UAE I'll probably make a new topic thread. If your still having problems please look back into the earlier pages for more information, search google for other threads, or contact customer support.

Oh yeah I think the etisalat helpline is 101 or some number like that I don't really remember. If you need the Sony UAE helpline you can probably find the number in your PS3 box (that's where I found it) or in the playstation site or you can contach Jumbo electronics cause I think they handle Sony technical stuff. Or you can even ask the store you bought your console in.
