I'm pretty much a hard core gamer, but I never knew it'll take this long to decide whether or not a 40gb would be sufficiant. Xmas hit me hard this year and I only have 438.34 to my name as we speak. I'm on ebay and I see a lot of used 60gbs with missing manuals going for 350-400. Should I just get a used 60gb or just get a brand new 40gb?

p.s I only intend on playing ps3 games on it being that I still have my bulky ps2.

IMO go w/ the 60gb one. but try to find a brand new one if you can. i don't trust anything that's used, but that's just me. or go w/ the 80gb one.

Dont buy no consoles used off ebay or anything, your best off just saving for a new one so you have your warrenty and everything and you have no doubt that there will be any problems

don't buy used.. if you really don't care about bc get the 40gb! its such a good deal. and if you find the space insufficient later on.. you can buy a cheap new HDD around 50$ :)

the 40gb is the obvious choice here. I mean, come on, I still have my ps2 and therefore bought the 40gb version. I wouldn't spend my money on a used ps3 regardless. if you're going to get such an expensive thing you need proper warranties etc.. so go for a new 40gb since ps2 games are done with. if you get that retro feel you can just plug your ps2 back in. save your money brother

the 40gb does play ps1 games. I tried spyro the dragon to test the upscaling. and ps1 games do indeed work. they also work over remote play with the psp which is pretty cool

hmm well if you're worried about the space, dont let that be a factor, since harddrive prices r dropping all the time, and u can sticka 120gb harddrive in ur ps3 for less than 80 bucks right now if wanted to. you don't need that card reader, quite useless, and the extra usb ports you can do without since you can charge your ps3 controllers on your home computer or something else. so the only factor you should consider is the backwards compatibility, you probably own a ps2, so unless you just want the convenience of having it on the ps3 also, save yourself a 100 bucks.

Get the 40 Gigs man.. especially when you have your old PS2.

Unless you want the extra USB ports I dont see any reason for not getting the 40 gigs.

I'd definitely recommend brand new 40GB version, especially since you mentioned you don't need to worry about previous generation.

It has all you need to play PS3 games. I wish I had the opportunity to spend 399$ instead of 600$ :)

I don't regret it though, as I have nothing but great time for the last 7 months with 60GB.

The 40gb does have the chrome finish and since you have limited funds, you have enough for it. I would only buy a used 60gb if knew they purchased a warranty on it. Since Sony is no longer manufacturing 60gb it doesn't make sense to buy a used one.

personally, i would never buy a used console...just too risky.

If you can find 60GB brand new get it, otherwise just get the 40GB....i got the 40GB and its fine....geez, my 20GB 360 (which is actually only 13GB) has lasted me 2 years without any data space issues.
