My college has this extremely stupid system for internet.

In order to get a system online you have to bring them the MAC Address, which I did. I copied it right from the System Info thing on the PS3 and brought it to them. But whenever I try to get onto the network it times out and I get the Error code 80028E02.

Everytime I go onto the internet on my laptop I have to do this little log in thing with a user name and password. Does this have anything to do with it?

that is a big shame cuz the college setting is just PERFECT for online-gaming! chillin' in your dorm playing COD4 agains peeps in other rooms, or a LAN party with people across the school all on the same network... dang, too bad.

Dude, I think I know what your problem is. I used to have this problem last year at the University of Cincinnati. I had the same problem. Since you said you gave them the MAC address, you should be onto the next step. I had problems logging in and what you need to do is to go to internet explorer and sign in your user name and password. Once you get logged in with that, you should be good to go. I had to do this everytime I switched ethernet cables from my laptop to my ps3. I hope this helps. Let me know if it does.

That's the same with Ball State University, all I have to do is open up the internet browser on my PS3 and it takes me to the login page for BSU's network. Once logged in, the PS3 stays connected until it's turned off.

Worked fine at Harvard...

But let me give you one word of advice. How about asking other members of your university rather than an online forum?

Alright I tried wireless, and I got to the log in screen but it kept refusing my log in even after I shut my lap top down.

I can get to the log in screen on wireless, but nothing on wired.

I remember having to go to a website using the PS3's browser in order to register it for the network, that was a pain.

Or you could do what several people have suggested - ask the people around your college who aren't techies. Or have the techies walk you through the exact process (actually take your system there to have them help you debug it -- hey, its a viable computer!)
