Okay, so am I an idiot or do I need a internet technology degree from MIT. From reading these message boards I assumed the PS3 was pretty much plug and play. But, I can't get online. I am using a LINKSYS router model BEFSR41 with my 2 pc's. When I hook up the cable to my PS3, the little light that indicates a connection never comes on. I even tried to connect directly to my cable modem, then the light came on but the Ps3 would still not find a network connection. I have Earthlink for my internet service and have had no problems with my pc's at all. C'mon this can't be that hard to do can it???!!!!???? Somebody help before I lose my mind.

not sure if thats your router model number seems kind of odd mine is lke WRG blah blah, earthlink what do you have DSL? if so i am not too sure cuz i have cable modem but it should be wall to modem, modem to router internet slot, other slots to whatever ps3/pc etc. then make sure your ps3 is on wired connection and should be good

Yea strait from my modem, mine wont find one either. But from modem to router "then to the PS3" it does.

its the right model number. it goes from cable to modem to router. if i connect to the router i get nothing, if i disconnect the router and plug the ps3 into the modem i at least get recognition that the ethernet cable is hooked up, but i can't connect to online. ps3 says cannot find ip address (or something like that)

with the ps3 off and router unplugged... plug the ethernet cable into both.... wait 30 seconds and plug the router back in/turn it on, turn on your ps3 and you should be fine

okay i tried the soft reset stuff by turning off the power to everything, then plugging it all in and nothing happened still. If it helps, my ethernet cable is about 40 feet long, is that too long for the ps3? If i remove the router and plug directly to the dsl modem, the lan indicator light on the ps3 flashes on off on off continuously. The tv screen/ ps3 screen is flashing "no ethernet cable plugged in" kind of in rhythm with the lan indicator light. WTF!!! I am thinking my router might be garbage but i can't connect directly to my modem either. So now I am thinking it is my ISP. Does anybody have EARTHLINK DSL for their ISP and do you have any problems? I don't want to go out and buy a bunch of new stuff if I don't need to so I guess if I know others are having problems with EARTHLINK that would tell me my problem. I see alot of posts on wirelesss routers but that doesn't help me too much so anybody have any more input for me?

It could be the cable itself. They are fragile, and can break. Try another cable, and a different port on the router.

Dude, I just switched from an ARRIS modem to a LINKSYS modem & the same thing happend. Before, I could plug & play my PS3 or PC to the net. But now only the PC, I get DNS 80710102 from the PS3. I called tech support in India, poor lady didn't have a clue, tried to blame my cable. Also, a search shows LINKSYS has a lot of issues w/PS3. Glad I kept my reciept.

If ur goin to give advice then atleast make sure its the right advice:roll:

To connect ur ps3 to ur router u need a straight through ethernet cable not a crossover, a crossover cable is only used to connect 2 computers directly.

It won't work straight to a modem cos the PS3 isn't built to use a modem, it does require a router. If the little light doesn't come on then try a new cable. Use a PC to go into your router settings and make sure it has DHCP enabled, if it aint then the ps3 won't connect cos it might be set to an IP already being used... On the PS3 change your IP to something you'd never use, if it's 192.168.0.2 now then change it to 192.168.0.34... something that will never be reached.

Strange thing is, the PS3 has no preference as to which cable it uses, i've used crossover and straight through and practically any pc or device these days will not care whether it's crossover or straight... If your going to give advice make sure it's the right advice
