ps3 cell has 8 spu's and 1 ppu right?

so why only 6 spu available for games ? i know 1 spu is for ps3 OS, so what for is the antoher 1 spu ?

Due to the advanced production process of the cell processor, only 7 SPEs are "active" in the PS3. You could look it up in IBMs tech notes to see a more technically explanation to it.

So, essentially, "advanced production processes" means that when they needed to start making PS3's they couldn't manufacture enough chips with all 8 SPE's working to meet their production targets. So they released the console with a version of the cell with only 7 SPE's working.
