I loved the God of War series. Really I did. Those games were a freakin' blast! That said, although Kraots' background seemed solid, his visual style always struck me as a bit over the top. He stuck out a little too much. Seemed a little unbelievable. I would've changed that. Keep the muscles, but the full body tattoo? I mean come on. That was pushing it. I want a character I can relate to. The sucky background (not bad sucky, sad sucky) was spot on, but then he comes out all Mike-Tyson-Face-Tattoo-except-all-over-the-body and you kinda lost me. Too late to change it now, but I would've liked to have seen them tone that down a bit.
I will, admit, however, that it made him more memorable and made him stand out more. But by the same token, it pulled him away from me a bit more too.
For reference, Shadow of the Colossus pulled me in because the "hero" seemed so normal. Just your average Joe. Me with a funny wardrobe. It was so much easier to see myself doing those things, and as such, easier to pull me in, personally, to the story.
