i bought a cheap 6 ft hdmi cable off ebay to go with my 50" samsung dlp (hlr5067w)and i was very impressed but later i noticed on games that timing is needed greatly (particularly sports games like mlb 07 when you swing at the ball) there is a very short delay. i figured it probably had had nothing to do with the cables and my tv just must have a slow delay time, but then i figured maybe it is the cables.

so is it the cables or my tv?

Most likely the game because there are a few games that have frame rate problems at this time.

Some HDTVs have lag. This is represented by response time.

this man speaks the truth. If you're going to buy cables go to either monoprice.com or bluejeanscable.com, they have very good price/quality.

More expensive cables only matter if you are planning to run a great length of the cable. Cheap cables are fine at 6 feet. It's your tv.

I have played on a DLP tv, and yes there is a noticible delay, much more than that of LCD, Plasma, or CRT, but it isnt significant enough to really effect how you play, unless you go from CRT to DLP and back in a manner of hours.

The delay is something you can get used to and it really doesnt take all that much time.

I don't think that it is the cable. I have a Sony 50'' SXRD tv which is pretty close to a Dlp. I am also using an Audio Quest Hdmi cable which cost $300 in a Best Buy Magnolia store. And let me just say this, I dont even see the difference in my hdmi cable vs a cheaper one. The only reason why I bought it is because I use to work for Best Buy and got a very nice discount on it.

Yup, he answered his own problem when he said DLP.

its not the cables. all expensive cables have is more outer protection. thats why their so hard and tuff. Unless your planning on slashing your cables with a knife, stick with the cheap ones. same thing.

Exactly.

It's funny because some Radio Shack guy tried to sell my father-in-law a $100 HDMI cable a few weeks ago to go with his new HDTV. It's a good thing I warned him about this ahead of time and told him not to spend more than $30; he went to Target and got a cord for $34.99.

No reason to buy expensive cables unless you are planning on going over 20ish feet or if you need the thicker cable if you have dogs/cats/kids that chew on stuff.

Cables have nothing to do with the delay. Expensive HDMI cables are worthless. My TV had a problem and the guy was trying to convince me that it was because I had a cheap HDMI cable, and not the 120$ monster cables, so I tried his freaking cable and got the same problem. They paid me back, and I told everyone I know not to go there anymore, because when you buy a defunct, they refused to exchange it, and they gave me the number of a technician, who called the company who exchanged my TV. So 3 weeks without a TV just because they didn't want to exchange it after 2 days, when it doesn't cost them anything.

Delay is often in the HDTV or projector. The latest Panasonic projector PT-AX200 has a game-mode which reduces the lag. Even some HDTV's have a game mode.

Projectors do need a very expenive HDMI cable, which is of course pretty obvious. Unless you are placing the PS3 right next to the Projector.

Which HDTVs would you reccomend that have low lag? Also, is there a general difference in amount of lag between LCD, Plasma, and Tube HDTVs?

I've got a Sammy 5087 model, no lag at all and I'm using 15 dollar monoprice cables. The DLP lag is a myth of older DLP sets just like the burn in problem for plasmas. Not an issue anymore. Also, if it's a Sammy, then turn game mode on if you feel like it. I don't, but you can and it does speed up processing just understand you are increasing wear and tear on your set.

i'd say if its not the game, its your TV.

i have a 46" Sony Bravia X series and i get the occasional frame rate dip..but only in some games, like SKATE.

its prolly not log or a loss of framerate, just a refresh rate thing.

im only using a fairly cheap HDMI cable, does the job fine, all my Blu-Ray movies look absolutely mint in full 1080p.

There is a difference between cheap and expensive cables contrary to popular belief. Cheap cables have you getting cheap connectors which in turn break far more often if there is very little pressure applied to them or if there strained downwards for a second or two when you turn your console around to disconnect it. Things like monster and other high quality companies don't have this problem.

There is no difference in quality of image to the extent that it's noticeable to the the untrained eye, but you will probably end up buying multiple cheap cables rather then just buying one good cable.
