Hey Folks,

Please tell me RPG"s similar to Dragon Quest VIII.

I just love this game and I'm just starting to get into RPG's. The village/cell shaded graphics are just brilliant

I'm sure there are some very knowledgable folks around here and hence the request.

Quote me any game from any system apart from PC.

Thanks:D

Never tried Dragon Quest VIII cause it was the same art as Dragon ball. Its a true turn-based game right? If so, then I think you'll like FFX since that is purely turn-based as well.

Yes, DQ-VIII is purely turn based.

How is the story in FF-X ?

Any other cell shaded RPG's ? other than Dark Cloud-2 of course, I already have that.

Dragon Quest VIII was fantastic. There aren't that many RPGs that use cel-shading... the first that comes to mind is Eternal Sonata (out now for 360, coming to PS3) and I hated that game. It looked really good though.

As for the gameplay aspect of it, it's very similar to how JRPGs used to be done... go check out the Final Fantasy remakes like III and IV for Nintendo DS, or Blue Dragon for 360. As for PS2/PS3, you might want to check out Suikoden III or maybe Suikoden V. Those are really good JRPGs with kindof an old-school flavor.

Hmm Theres Rouge Galaxy made by the creators of dark cloud and DQ VIII, and the Final Fantasy games. There is also Radiata Stories. Oh and Final Fantasy X's story is fantastic.

The story's hard to explain, and it may sound lame when I tell it but it's actually really good once you play it. I just tried typing the story but it sounds really bad. I can only say it involves everything: saving the world, romance, finding the meaning of your life, self-identity. It's really good

If you like cell shaded RPGs then you have to play Rouge Galaxy. Its not a turn based RPG but its a lot of fun. The game is very in depth and beautiful. I recomend it to everyone actually.

You could enjoy any Suikoden. Have a look at the last one on PS2, it's turn based, looks pretty colorful and you can have 108 characters joining your force (sadly you can't fight with them all, but you have more than enough choice)

Pretty much all the Final Fantasy games are amazing. There are 11 of them (Spinoffs and the MMO not counted), and you can play them in any order too. Of course, if you like Dragon Quest, then hunting down other games in the series would be a good idea. Also I recommend the Chrono games, Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross are amazing and definately worth playing.

Don't limit yourself to PS2 RPG's. Some of the absolute best RPG's were released for the PSX. (Final Fantasy VII, VIII, and IX... Chrono Cross, Xenogears, ect)

I´m kindof an rpg fan myself.....of the rpgs i own i would recommend that you try out FFX and Shadow Hearts: convenant, which is the second in the series (dont need to play the first to understand the story).

Neither are cell-shaded, but on the other hand FFX has just an awesome story and good gameplay aswell, though the leveling system may be just a tiny bit overwhelming at first, its purely turn based and both gameplay, graphics and animations are really good even by today´s standards, considering it´s a ps2 title of course.

As for shadow hearts: convenant, the story is mainly cool, but good aswell (as far as i could see cause i´m only at the end of the game and havent beat it completely). However the gold here is in the gameplay, cause it introduced a really nice twist to turn based battles which has to do with timing...it´s kinda hard to explain (it´s called the ring of judgement) .....

Well, just wanted to give the advice to research bout these 2 titles, for example see the video review here in gamespot or any other similar site, if you like what you see get them, if you can. they´re really top rpg´s, i really liked playing them.....so my advice is to check these two out.
