You can't do miracles with a catalyst. You need a talisman. You'll find one at the beginning in world 4-1, near the gate. (Talisman of God) However it will not be able to cast spells.
The other talisman (Talisman of Beast) allow you to cast both spells and miracles. You obtain this by a couple of methods, the most popular one being killing Scivir's Dark Phantom form in world 2 at pure black world tendency.
