clueless questions about mgs4

sorry about this i know so little about metal gear solid that it will probably offend some people.

but.

how old is snake now? 60? i read somewhere that mgs4 is set 20 years after mgs3.

what is his real name?

and wtf is up with the metal gears (i think thats what they're called, the big robot things)? are they living or are the robots?

i want to get msg4 but i want to play the original games first. but my ps2 broke :( and i have a 40gb ps3

i remember one day when i was 11-12 years old (now 15) i saw mgs3 in a ps mag and i thought "looks good might get it" but i had no idea of how big the game was so i never had the motivation to get it. so now here i am knowing nothing about mgs.

1. Solid Snake is 42 and we don't know his real name. He is old because of accelerated aging as he is a clone of MGS3's main character, which was set in 1964 (50 years before MGS4).

2. The Gekkos (the Metal Gear model seen in the trailers) are machines, but their legs are partially organic for better maneuverability.

If you aren't able to play the previous game's then your best bet to catch up with the story is to either read the Wikis or watch Gametrailer's retrospective.

and in a video for mgs4 the metal gears like bleed its weird and now im confused.

if i manage to get my hands on a ps2 which ones should i play? because there seems to be 2 versions of each game.

and should i get mgs 1? apparently its really hard

maybe if it dont sell to well. The only limitation i see is disc size whih thhey can easily put it on 4 discs.

where have you been the past 2 years? ps3 has blu-ray, which can have 50gb on a duel layer disc, 360s only have dvd. dvd = 8gb on duel layer

Yes, the PS3 use blu-ray, while the Xbox use dvd. One blu-ray disc can contain 50 gb on a dual layer disc, while the dvd can contain only 9.5 gb on a dual layer disc:P

People already answered the other questions but here are the others.

Metal gears are certainly not living. They are Bipedal Nuclear tanks (:D). Those miny metal gear moo cow things are jut robots with AI. That wolf thing,octopus,puppet,and flying thing that are seen in the trailers are not metal gears but are just experiments on crazy soldiers to make better use of them.

Did you play MGS1, at the end if you get the bad ending and escape with Otacon, Snake will tell Otacon my real name is DAVID and the same if you get the perfect ending he will say his name to Meryl.
