Now before anybody blasts me for what I'm going to say I just wanna say I love this game and the SP and MP are intense and fun but honestly as a game that was hyped up to have the best graphics of 07 i found that I was a little let down. I remeber starting off and looking at a wall from very far and saying "Damn those textures are detailed" but as soon as I got 2-3 feet away from it the quality started to degrade and I was shocked at how poor the texture resolution is I mean they are down right horrible. I understand textures wouldn't be as good as say a third person game which has the camera far away from these things but to me they are much worse than the average FPS. Do you guys feel the same??TrillHeat954
i agree the graphics are awesome until you get close op one something then it looks like crap, but i was diasappointed with the game all together
graphics are not that good in this game imo. expecially the guns they take about 1/4 of the screen rediculous !! lol

use the space bar much?
Its the price we have to pay to have a game with so many things going on at once while also running at a consistent 60fps. I wish more developers would learn from Infinity Ward. I don't mind the low resolution textures in given areas if it makes a difference in the overall quality. The PS3 has only been out a year. It doesn't help things by Sony not giving developers more memory and a complicated architecture. Maybe things will improve if they learn how to utilize the cell processor in news ways--streaming anyone?
Being a graphic design student, a good word that describes Call of Duty 4 visually is Gestalt. In a nutshell, it means the whole is more than the sum of its parts. i'm happy with the outcome. Not every texture is low res. It has been strategically placed in certain areas. I purchased the PS3 version but rented the 360 version from Gamefly. The 360 version does have more instances of higher resolution textures. It isnt significant and isn't a reason to own it over the PS3, but its there if you're analitical about it. While many textures are identical here are some examples of what I mean. I made these a few days ago and decided not to share them at the time. Obviously changing my mind now. I'm happy i bought the PS3 version. I'm a minority when it comes to controller preference--I like the SixAxis a lot more.

Note: I took the images with a tripod and digital camera. The color is not a great representation of the actual displayed image. I was merely wanting to demonstrate some instances of lower res textures on the PS3 version. Once again, not a big deal to me.
Here are my copies of the game:

dude....no game has spectacular graphics when u stand a feet from a wall or the ground or w.e
even crysis...and yes i played crysis on highest reso
wow the textures close up for 360 are better then PS3 and im a fanboy of sony, that really sucks.Nolan16
True, but you don't see it while you're playing or even looking from a distance. You have to go out looking for it. And the only reason I did go out looking for differences is because I had both versions and was curious. Not to mention the online component was pretty poor this weekend. I also only did examples of differences. There were more instances in the game where the textures are identical. Probably the only consistent texture that is lower on the PS3 is the ground. I also believe the lighting looks more realistic on the PS3 version. Since the beginning, 360 games are just too dark--and its not something you can just adjust on your television with brightness/contrast settings. Its just how the ATI videocard handles lighting. Either way the game is fantasitc and I so far it appears the servers have significantly improved.
it's a fast paced game. that's why certain parts of the textures are not great. because you won't be looking at them.
But Yeah, the graphics aren't half as good as people think. it's just really smartly done. characters look good, and from a cetain distance everything looks good. Particle effects are great and lighting is very good.
Textures are not the key to immersion. lighting, character animation and particle effects are much more important.
The ball of fire that engulfs the highway at the end looked sooooo realistic. Yes the texture off a wall or a sign I don't even remember seeing in the game may not be top notch but the game still rocks. The ghillie suit mission was fantastic and one of the best game experiences I've had.
Spoiled gamers and their high standards....

I am glad somebody posted this topic. I thought I was crazy. I played COD4 on the 360 (at my brother's house) before I bought a copy for my PS3. I thought the water textures looked really good on the 360 version. It actually made me stop and say "wow" when I saw it the first time. Then I bought it for PS3 and the water looked like crap to me. Low textures and poor water animations on the PS3. I think the 360 version definitely wins in terms of graphics AND overall smoothness, but I still love my PS3 and wouldn't trade it for the world...arcthaman
The water looks like crap on both versions.
Wow some of you nit pick at any and everything. Textures, textures, and more textures, who the hell cares about how good textures are or not?mrvic87
All the folks who shouted from the roof tops how amazing theyare.
Textures are all cosmetic and have no impact on your overall enjoyment of a game. Well at least it shouldn't. mrvic87
Which has been proven time and time again through out the years and conosle generations that graphics do not add to the experience of a game. :|
I can't imagine too many people would play a game and at some point decide to just sit around somewhere to criticize the textures or background in it. Especially for a quick paced game like COD4.mrvic87
It's easily noticeable when hugging a wall for cover.
Is it really that serious? :lol:mrvic87
No.
