I had COD4 roughly a year ago on 360 and I loved it. Now that I have a PS3, I was wondering which one is the better game.

I loved the perks and weapon customization, along with the new present day setting. Im really sick of WW2 games, but I figure I'll be playing 99% of my time on the multiplayer anyway.

Which is the better game to buy, and is COD 4's community still insanely large? Do you see it's community going to WaW int he near future?

I own both, so my credibility will be a little more than somebody who dismisses the new one just because its WW2, having not played it.

I'll say this.. if you havent played either, and could only get one, yes i would suggest COD4. The graphics are better, the weapons are more accurate and powerful (obviously, 60 years later).. and overall its just a better game. As of last week, there was no trouble in finding a match in COD4

In your case, i would get COD:WaW. Youve already experienced COD4 likely to ad nauseum like everybody else, and despite its WW2 setting, WaW is really fresh. Some of the maps are great, although I wish they were a little more varied (and no friggin snow map, which are my favourite). I've gotten used to the guns, and to be honest, it takes more skill to get kills without red dot site to fall back on.

Also, having Jack Bauer as your commander (in campaign, and online when youre a marine) is pretty unbeatable

dogs >>> helicopter attack. I was skeptical of it at first, but its nowhere near as cheap, and the dogs can be killed with a well time melee attack. Overall Im loving the new COD:WaW, but obviously having played COD4 for the last year its no revolution. Unfortunately martydom is still here.

COD4 ONLINE>COD WAW417alum

Agreed. I love WaW, and I'll be playing it alot for the next year, but I'm still gonna be playing alot of COD4 as well. I like the weapons and maps in COD4 alot more. The WaW maps are too big IMO. How awesome would it be if they released a map pack for WaW that had like 3 COD4 maps in it. It'd be godly. Backlot, Overgrown, and Downpour. Who's with me?

That's sad that right after the sequel comes out people already want the OLD maps back. lol

cod:waw has a great campaign that I found myself getting into even though I was skeptical about the return to ww2. As for online there is something about cod:4 that is just better and like someone else said there is still martydom but what I hate even more is the replacement for claymores. They're these landmines that are nearly impossible to spot until it's to late.

I'll be looking forward to cod:5 which I hope is modern again.

I think the COD 4 single player is better. But WAW has a better online game, co-op, and prestige system. Zombie mode is also pretty awesome.

While I was impressed with WAW, I prefer COD4's SP campaign. COD4 is more addictive and I after I finished it, I wanted to restart it straight away. I didn't get that with WAW... Both games are very good however.

So you finished WAW already? I got too many games i have yet to complete. I played Waw beta for 360 and it was not bad @ all. Im going to buy eventually but i honestly got sick of COD4 around april.

I bought it the day it was released, and finished it about 3 days later (very short campaign like COD4). And as I said, I prefered COD4.

I liked the fact that in COD4, you had 2 main villians who were your targets (Al-asad & Zakhaev). It made the battles more intense & you really wanted to kill those bastards! Lol.

I could use some help? Im torn between the two. I can get the GOTY edition on amazon for 40 bucks. I havent played COD4 even close enough to the point of being bored with it, and I havent played it in like a year. So are the small changes in WaW enough to warrant a purchase over cheap COD4 GOTY?

Also, if I were to buy the GOTY version of COD4 used, would the code for the new maps be useless if the previous owner already used it? If anyone knows the answer, please help

I was under the impression you played COD4 a lot... in that case I'd maybe get modern warfare instead since its $20 cheaper. I cant guarentee its community as long as COD:WaW (which will likely go until the IW game next year), but having just put it on (i checked for you lucky guy haha) i was able to find a match with ease.

Did you read what i said above?

My recomondation... buy COD4:Modern Warfare,, and maybe trade it for a used COD:WaW in a couple months time.

Online CoD 4 was bette, but the community is slowly dying. I for one sold CoD 4 for WaW, & I must say i'm happy & impressed with what Treyarch pulled off for not just another WWII shooter, imo it's the best CoD game available. Online is not as good CoD 4 or 3, BUT it's good knowing 100, 000 play co-op & competitive @ any given time. CoD 4 functioned the best online, problem is the community isn't very large anymore.

the codes only work one time, so if the previous owner used then you wont get the maps =/ just wait til cod4 drops to 20 bucks :P

I have both, and really I'd say it's mainly down to personal choice. The community on both seem to be good at the moment. Although if you can get COD 4 for much cheaper, I'd be tempted to say that. But WAW would be a whole new experience, so I'd be tempted to say that. And as mentioned earlier Jack Bauer is your boss, which is just the best thing ever.

ah, toss a coin.

its time to move on

The next game is CODWAW,If you even liked COD4 alittle.  CODWAW is a solid game and just as much fun online, but story mode coop is great

I never got into COD4 much, but I'm loving World At War at the moment. Versus multiplayer isn't really my thing, but the campaign and co-op modes are all top quality and worth buying the game for on their own.

I really want to say both. I haven't bought W@W as of yet, but having both provides a different variation. COD4 shouldn't and probably wont until COD6 comes out...

I've owned both (past tense), but now only own COD4. The campaign for me wasn't very interesting, but I guess that's to be expected when you don't have much creative freedom to mess with the events of the past. I also thought a lot of the maps in WAW were way too big and you were spawned either too far away from the action or right near the opposing forces resulting in a lot of cheap deaths. Also, the tanks are a really cheesy addition to the gameplay and as someone else said, the bouncing betties are almost impossible to spot before they kill you.
