The process of shooting a gun is something CoD4 does better than any other game til date. But as a game, I don't think it's as great as people claim it to be. The single player is short and doesn't get you emotionally attached to your characters due to the constant switching, the story while excellent in its presentation, doesn't manage to serve a satisfying closure (or opening for that matter).
The online is great for the most part, although, in order to perform challenges, the game forces you over and over to restart with some of the crappiest guns ever and the default visors always give you a disadvantage. Also, while the experience, challenge and perks systems are cool, the rest of the front end, especially the lack of a server browse, is disappointing.

I disagree on this.
The single player campaign is quite a thrill ride. The quality is very good, there are a lot of vehicle sequences and an amazing sniper mission. COD4 campaign is probably one of the best ive ever played. I might not have been emotionally attached but its still shows war in its worst. People dying all around you, one of the characters you play with dies. The message is that war is bad and I loved it. Also I played it on hardened the first time through, so in my eyes the game is pretty long.
I never felt like I was at a disadvantage in online. I started playing it on friday and im already a lvl 19, only playing 2hrs of it. It might hurt because u dont have any good perks but in the end of the day its about killing the other people. Ive neverchanged my gun (M16). It is the best game on the PS3 to date.
