Infinity Ward did a wonderful job of taking Call of Duty from WW2 and bringing it to the modern age. However, Treyarch, the company that made COD3, is back and is taking COD5 back to the WW2 era. It seems that their not only taking a step back in history, but taking a step back with the COD franchise. Don't get me wrong, the other COD games were all good, but COD4 really defined what FPS should be like. WW2 has been done again and again, taking it to the present is the best thing they did, and I hope the next one will also be set in present time, or maybe in the close future. What do you think?

I don't even know why they keep on handing it to Treyarch. I mean they are a good ompany but taking COD back after its had a huge success in the modern age doesnt make sense to me.

If they are truly going back to ww2, theyve lost a consumer. I loved the MW setting, just felt like it was about time.O well.

Such a weak, weak idea. Sorry but Treyarch's COD games sucked! The Big Red was garbage and COD 3 looked OK but was sooooo boring and stuck in France. I just hope that they abandon the worn out wastelands of mainland Europe and focus on some of the regions like Italy, Greece, Scandinavia etc. Cos if they do short cut and go back to France then I'd give it miss!

I think it depends on what they do. With COD3, they did improve the gameplay and graphics over previous COD games. They also introduced different game modes like Headquarters and War. Headquarters is in COD4 and Domination is a different twist to War. I thought the online mode was the best of the series until COD4 came out. I think COD5 in WWII could be good if they: 1) Continue to improve the graphics. 2) Continue to add a variety of game modes to play. 3) Continue to diversify the aspects/weapons of WWII used including a better variety of locations. 4) Add Perks relevant to WWII timeframe. 5) Add a rank system with weapon unlocks. 6) Add a challenge system. Basically improve on the WWII aspects and build on the gameplay improvements of COD4. Did COD3 have VOIP? I cant remember. If not, then add that too.

I like how they do the COD games. Instead of getting one company to slightly update the game every year to get minimum improvement they give the game to two company so each company has 2 years development time.

Treyarch had to start developing the game a year before COD4 was out. They didn't know if people would like the idea of COD games being in a modern war. They might have felt that they had to play it safe with COD5 and make it a WW2 based games as they know WW2 COD games sell.

that's true, that's what really matters after all.

and besides, let's just be happy that WWII was at least kinda exciting, what if the next Call of Duty was set during the Revolutionary War or the Civil War??? LMAO, can you imagine the reload times on those old flintlock rifles, hahahaha

hey look at the bright side, Treyarch did include vehicles and team support in COD3, so if you blend all kinds, we could expect what's introduced in COD3 with the add-on of COD4's ability to run. It should be interesting

COD3's Multiplayer was the best in the whole COD franchise until COD4 and i do hope they take it back to WWII because there are WAY too many futuristic/modern shooters around right now. COD3's online had classes(medic, heavy, light), vehicles and there was a lot more teamwork involved than in 4. Also, get off the treyarch bashing bandwagon because theyve introduced a lot of other nice features to COD e.g sprinting and even the levelling up system(although it was only that match) and their multiplayer map designs are also pretty fantastic.

If for whatever reason Treyarch does not want to do Modern Warfare style COD, I wouldnt mind seeing a well done Vietnam COD.

Imagine lush jungles with COD4 quality lighting and awesome sniper suits among other things.

If it is a World War II based shooter I wont be buying it.

I am so tired of these WWII theme games. I don't even bother picking them up anymore, because it is the same story over and over. Kill these nazies here and here, then go to this place to kill more nazies blah blah blah. The weapons are old, and I like our modern weapons like the Assualt Rifles and shotguns. I am tired of playing with old rifles and driving old vehicles. It is all too boring and cliche now. I'll pass on COD if it is WWII.

Despite the fact that there were vehicles in past COD games from Treyarch - I refuse to play any more world war shooters. It's become SO old seeing how many ways they can give you the true experience of using that old weaponry. You can make an M1 Garand look real, make the sights look great and all that, but the fact still remains that it's an old gun and shouldn't have any further exposure in FPS games. That's just one example ffs.

All of that being said, I can't fine one article that says anything about the timeframe of COD5, so this discussion is pretty much null and void until they do announce that. God dammit I hate when people make assumptions based on NO proof...

A Vietnam would be sweet. Instead of wars we won, how about some war games we had troubles with

Dark shadows and thick bushes and raining all the time, would be really fun for COD.

Call of Duty : World at War is not COD5. COD5 is being made by infinity ward and will be either modern war or future :D
