So do they only work on HDTV's? Can you use it on the standard yellow, red, and white plug ins?

I really dont hope that I have to get an HDTV to play my psp games on the TV.

Any possible way of them coming out with reg tv cables?

There is regular yellow/white/red AV cables as well, but they'll only do interlaced output. Games will only output in progressive scan. You can still use those cables to do other stuff on your tv, like display photos, play videos, and music. Games just won't work. Maybe they'll fix it in a future firmware update, who knows...

It does suck doesn't it? I thought i was set because i have component inputs on my regular tv but then find the tv also has to be progressive scan compatible. With the ps2 you can just use a regular tv so why the necessity of an hdtv with the psp? ---That would be cool if they did 'fix' that in an update but that WOULD be a surprise I'm not expecting.

Ok first of all, games were never designed to be displayed on a regular television, they are optomized for the psp which has a 480x272 screen so its not surprising that they don't look too great on a regular tv or that it doesn't fill the whole screen.

Also, the reason you need an hdtv is because a regular tv can not display 480 lines of resolution on thehorizontal scale. I know there was an aftermarket product so you could connect your psp to the tv, does anyone have more information on this? Like if you could play psp games on an sdtv? Maybe there is a way to go from 480p to 480i, if so maybe Sony will release it in the future. Either way, games are going to look best on a psp screen, no surprise there.

Most HDTVs have the zoom function. i zoomed mine into fullscreen and adjusted the sharpness and the visual quality is excellent.

It doesnt HAVE to be an HDTV it will work on computer monitors that have component input... but those are pretty rare.

I bought the cables and found out the hard way. Fortunately, I got a refund with no problems. I have an HDTV at home, but do not bother playing portable systems around the house. I only wanted the cable so I could plug my psp into any television I have access to while on the go.

The problem is not really the resolution - the resolution on a standard tv is ~702x480. a 480x272 image would fit nicely in there.

The problem is the way the image is displayed, progressive or interlaced. The games are optimized for viewing on the PSP screen, which is progressive. They are just not programmed to do interlacing. A tv that's not HD would have an interlaced display.

interlacing shows every other line, then every other line.

progressive shows the the entire image at once, producing a much clearer picture.
