What I basically want to know is this:
If I buy the american version of "Chrono Trigger" (might be called Chrono Cross, it's the game that came with a final in the same box), will it play on my european ps3?
I think it's very odd to talk about "european ps3's" though since I thought region-free meant... well... region free.nrseven
Yes, you'll be able to play PS3 games from USA on the Euro PS3.
Games are region free. However, Blu-Ray movies are not.
The only thing that is region free on the PlayStation 3 are PlayStation 3 games. PS2 games, PSOne games, Blu Ray movies and DVD movies are still strictly enforced with region coding. That US version of Chrono Cross for the PSOne would not play on a Euro PS3.lyndonAPI
Actually only PS3 games are region free. PS2 and PSOne games are region coded so they won't work. Trust me I own games from all regions and have tried it myself.

Just to make it clear chrono trigger and chrono cross are two different games(in the same series) both of them are sold seperately.
The Playstation 3 console is region free, but PS3 games are region encoded. That is why you see a number 1 for North American games, 2 for European and Japanese games and 4 for Australian games on the box. But since the PS3 console is region free, it can play games from all regions, so Japanese games can be played in North America and Europe, as North American games can be played in Europe and Japan.kkee
The games aren't actually region coded at all. I don't understand why they have the regions on the games cause they are useless other than stating which "region" they came from which is obvious in other ways anyway. I really wish Sony would open up the region crap with PS1&2 games though, it is so goddamn pointless at this stage. Why the hell should they care if someone plays a PS1 or 2 game not from their "region" now?
