Hey all, I was curious if anyone knew if I could use a PS3 on an LCD (which has VGa and DVI inputs) using this cable: http://www.optimization-world.com/products/catid/4.html

Thanks!

I would be using this LCD by the way: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16824009145 It has HDCP support, so I think this would all work, but anyone know for sure?

No. That allows for your PC to hook to a HDMI port. It will not work in reverse. There are solutions to this, but I don't think you want to fool with it. I checked into it months ago and seem to recall the cheapest "correct" solution I found was in the $100 range.

"Our DVI to HDMI cables are bi-directional, so you can send a signal from HDMI to DVI too" You sure?

Upon further investigation, there is a female-to-male convertor on that page. Now I am curious myself if it would work in reverse with that adapter. would be worth the $30 to find out probably. If they have a return policy then go for it.

Would be nice if Sony could come up with a solution similar to XBox 360's VGA cables. This is annoying.

Yep that will work. Just plug the HDMI cable in the PS3 and DVI in the monitor an you'll be good to go :) . I've got my PS3 hooked up to my monitor aswell but with a DVI to DVI cable and a DVI to HDMI adaptor and it works perfectly.

Awesome, but am I missing something? Isn't a DVI to DVI and then DVi to HDMI a bit redundant? Also, what are you doing for audio?

Its not redundant. He has the DVI cable coming out of his monitor and the DVI-to-HDMI adapter plugged into the PS3. I owuld like to hear his solution to sound myself.

Ohh, okay I see now. For audio, I'm thinking I could just use the RCA cables from the PS3, plug a 3.5 mm Stereo to RCA Audio adapter and then to the speakers.

Which would require you to change the sound settings in the XMB to A/V Audio Out.
