The file size depends on several factors. The resolution, video/audio bitrates, encoding format (AVC or SP) all have an effect. Some movies just don't encode well. Especially wmv files on PSP Video 9. Try encoding something else to make sure that the encoder works properly.
The other thing to watch out for is that the movie has to be in the right folder or the PSP won't recognize it. Putting a movie encoded at firmware 1.5 into the /VIDEO folder will not work. It must go into one of the /MP_ROOT folders. Similarly you can't put a firmware 3.3 encoded movie into a /MP_ROOT folder. PSP Video 9 lets you pick the firmware to encode for....not sure if your other package does. Try copying the movie into every one of the movie folders and see if one of them works.
Psp Video 9 is ok, but the sound never works and takes hours to convert something. i recommend dvix4psp for highest quality, hard to find the right verision howeverFreshNoodles
Hours?! What kind of crappy old computer do you have?
