So I am a pretty hardcore gamer. I play my 360 every night usually. Unfortunatly for me, the Metal Gear Solid franchise is my favorite game franchise. So, needless to say, I'm burning to play MGS4. So I ask you, fellow Gamespotters, to convice me to run out and buy a PS3. I already want one for the Blu Ray player, GT5 and obviously MGS4. I just don't know if thats enough to get me to run out and get one tomorrow. Please, i need your suggestions and need to be convinced!!!

If you are getting a Blue Ray player anyway, might as well get a PS3. The Blue Ray player alone out performs more expensive stand-alone players. That was all I needed to make up my mind.

You seem to want a few of the PS3 exclusives. So you are probably going to get one eventually. Is MGS4 good enough to get a PS3 now is the only concern.

Metal gear solid 4 is a really great game especially if you love the series already. I personally love my ps3 and haven't played anything else since I got it. Well I did play mgs2 and 3 on my ps2 since I had a forty gig ps3.

I personally think you need to want more than 2 games to warrant a $400-$500 system.

If you want a blue ray player, then yeah definitly get a ps3 for that. Not only can you watch the blue ray movies on it, but then you also get a gaming console with it.

Besides, if you are a mgs fan then you should absolutly get one. Metal Gear Solid 4 will blow your mind in every gaming aspect, then maybe some after that, ( that is for mgs fans, i cant say that it will do as much for people who don't enjoy that kind of gameplay). Either way, if you get it for blue ray player, then hey you get a gaming console with it. Or if you get it for gaming, then hey you get a blue ray player with it. Just look at it like that and making the choice seems simple, you get 2 for little more then the price of one.

Yea lol, you really make me laugh. Of course go get one, your kind of like me, you know you want it but you don't want to make a stupid purchase so you ask some people and think about it. Go get it you will not regret it, you say you game all the time on 360? Well me too and i don't know how new to it you are but you just get bored of using the same controller and playing the same games. So you need both 360 and PS3, PS3 has MGS, GOW, FF, Ratchet & clank, uncharted drakes fortune, GT. All the PSone classics you can download onto your console, you can play your PS2 games, play bluray movies. The wide variety of games you have of having the 2 top nextgen systems with the most features. You get free online on PS3 so you can stream videos wirelessly from your PC, blurays will be beautiful, regular dvds will be beautiful, and have HDMI. So to get the backwards compatible PS3 you will need to get the MGS4 80 GB bundle for 500 where you can find it. GO GET IT!

Yes since 40GB doesn't play PS2 games. PS2 games take up virtually no room, but PS3 games have installs that sometimes take up to 5GB's.

It also all depends on how your money situation is, it seems like you have money to spare. I personally love games and technology so if i have money to spare i don't have 2 thoughts i get it. I play 360 all the time and i have MGS and PS3. I hardly play PS3 i bought it last Saturday and I LOVE IT. And i never even play it really, i hardly have used PS3 and i love it, i really don't even need it to play games since i have 360 but knowing i can get all those exclusives anyday i want is great. and it has a lot of great exclusives and i know i will play and buy those great exclusives so thats an added bonus to all the other things i can do with it. BUY IT!

Seriously. You gave a bunch of reasons why you wanted one. There are a bunch of other PS3 series you can get into also, like Resistance, Killzone 2, Uncharted, and more. Get one, you won't be disappointed. :D

Well, MGS 4 was enough for me to buy, so why not if you have the money? Not only that, God of War 3 is in the future, Little Big Planet, FF XIII(And FF XIII Versus), Resistance 2, and Killzone 2 are also on the horizon. Plus there's Uncharted, Unreal Tournament(Its coming out for the 360 but I don't think it has the same support for Mods), Ratchet and Clank, and GT 5: Prologue now. Plus it's probably the cheapest Blu-ray player you are going to find right now, and that's not the only function you are going to get out of it. All I can say is, if you want something and its well within your means then get it. If you want a PS3 for one game and you are willing to spend the money on it, don't let anyone tell you how to spend your money because what is not worth it to one person my be worth it to another.

LoL ... thanks for the info guys ... sorry to see that there are still some trolling a$$holes around, though.

Think I'll pick up the 40gb model and then just use my PS2 to play older games, unless I can find that 80gb/MGS4 bundle but everybody is sold out of it right now ...

There are enough games out on ps3 to be worth a purchase.

The major ones are

Resistance

MGS 4

Ratchet and Clank

Uncharted Drakes Fortune

Ones that are pretty good, but not super awsome are

Warhawk

Folklore

Heavenly Sword

GT 5 Prologue

Hot Shots Golf

cool games ranging from pretty good to awsome are coming out in 08-09 are

Disgaea 3

Socom

Little Big Planet

Motorstom 2

Valkyria Chronicles

Resistance 2

Wipeout

Tekken 6

White Knight Chronicles

Killzone 2

Infamous

God of War 3

Twisted Metal

War Devil Enigma (still a mysterious game though, no one knows)

You should get one now or wait until MGS 4 dies down and then buy one when no one isn't looking.

July seems pretty dry for PS3, no one will want one then.

I am in the same boat you are in, only with deciding on 360. I want one so I can play RPG's like Eternal Sonata Tales, and Infinite Undiscovery, but is that enough or will I not like them much due to my perception on things. You have already said you Like MGS 4, and a couple others out now and games you like coming out next year plus blu ray, so that is like 4 games plus a video format. It sounds to me you would appreciate a ps3 enough to lay down some green. If you know you will eventually get one, then just do it now. Even if you don't use it every night, you will eventually and when other big games come out, you don't have to worry about getting one because you have had one already. I know I spent too much for mine close to launch but I got the 60 with the full BC hardware piece and have everything setup ready to play the cool games, while others are just getting into the groove.

In my opinion it is best to buy a system when nothing is out that way you are more guaranteed to find the system and don't have to worry about it being sold out. Who knows maybe around August I will get the 360. Anyway hopefully you decide to join us, we will have fun together.

Ps2 games take up no room, unless your meaning saving your games. Game cache and installations are for Ps3, and the only one that requires installation is for online games(to the best of my knowledge). If you want to decide or wether or not to get a Ps3, think of it like this, and I'm being rather blunt and unbias(although, Ps3 4 ever), Which do you see yourself having more fun on? What features are more important to you? What games are fun? How much do you think it's worth in the end? Let those be the reasons you decide to send 500 bucks. I can say this, this was the best 600 bucks I ever spent in my life and their isn't a moment I don't regret it for anything else.

" I am a gamer, game like no one else, because I am no one else. So when you ask me what system is better and which do I prefer, I say I like the one that has the games I want to play. I like the one that gives me the features I need. So it's not Up or down, Right or Wrong, Playstation or Xbox, It's what I like to play. Don't lable me a terrorist...Only a gamer"

On the ps3 they have emulated things, so what you have to do is create a virtual memory card. It is 8 MB just like a normal ps2 card. You then push the triangle button on the memory card icon and set it to a virtual slot. (note: the slots on the 80GB are for flash readers only. If you wish to transfer saved data from an old memory card you must buy a memory card adaptor) You also push triangle if you wish to transfer photos or music with a usb memory stick otherwise the ps3 will say there are not any files on the device. Like on the ps2 how you had to push triangle to set the disc speed to fast and textures to smooth everytime you turned it on. Too bad PS2 games don't load faster on PS3 though.

So do you guys think the 40gb is the way to go then? Just use my PS2 to play older games? Or should I wait and search for an 80gb?

So I am a pretty hardcore gamer. I play my 360 every night usually. Unfortunatly for me, the Metal Gear Solid franchise is my favorite game franchise. So, needless to say, I'm burning to play MGS4. So I ask you, fellow Gamespotters, to convice me to run out and buy a PS3. I already want one for the Blu Ray player, GT5 and obviously MGS4. I just don't know if thats enough to get me to run out and get one tomorrow. Please, i need your suggestions and need to be convinced!!! codablack

I'm like you. I play my 360 just about every day. I actually enjoy the 360 more as a console over the PS3 and like you I am a MGS fan as well as a FF and GoW fan. While the PS3 itself in my opinion is rubbish compared to 360 I say if you have the means GET A PS3! Don't get it for the console itself get it for MGS4 because really it is awesome! Not to mention GoW 3 will be coming AND you want a Blu-ray player. You seem to have PLENTY of reasons to get one.

Alright, I think I've made my mind up. Also, I think I have the differences between the 40gb and the 80gb figured out, but I would appreciate some of your guys's opinions between the two as well. Seems the 80gb is the way to go. Thanks again for everything.

the 40 gig was put out to build up the userbase and to make the system available at a more affordable price. The only problem now a lot of people want BC and so not all PS3's have them and before MGS 4 they weren't any. They cancelled the Motorstorm bundle in favor of the new one. They still should have made the old bundle available until about 2 weeks before MGS 4 came out. It seems you still want to play PS2 so yes the 80GB would be good for you. Wait a week or so, and I am pretty sure you will be able to find one. It is a big game and the sales will be down in the second week. There is no big rush.

Yea well if i were you i'd rather play my games on PS3 and you can trade in PS2 towards a PS3 at gamestop and get $80 towards the purchase. So i would suggest 80gb because i'd always rather deal with just PS3 and 360 rather than having another console to deal with too. GET THE PS3 WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FORRR!!! ALSO it has been rumored that there will be an update allowing PS2 games to be played on the 40gb(of course you would need to connect to online to get the update. Who knows if its going to come out or not.
