Does anyone know if this would be a good purchase, to prevent over heating ETC?

No cooling fan is necessary for the PS3, other then the one it's already got inside of it. ;) If your console is overheating, you're either playing it to long, in a massively hot room, or it doesn't have adequate room for ventilation. If it isn't overheating, don't worry about it.

For 14 pounds sounds like a good buy to me, get it it would guarantee that no overheating occurs especially for gaming after a long time. Regardless of what people say even the PS3 can overheat which is usually the cause of YLOD.

I know the cooling fans for the Xbox 360 have been known to actually make them RROD, so I'd be weary.

I know they're different systems, but you never know

If your system is having a lot of over heating problems, then yes. But otherwise, I wouldn't consider it ;)

That's quite unnecessary.
