Move my .avi and .mpeg movie files to my PS3 HD and play them on the system? I have a load of full movies I've downloaded and would love to watch them on my TV. But if this is possible, what would I need to transfer the files?

I think you need to download PS3video9 and convert them to MPEG4. But Im not 100% sure about that though. Anyone else know for sure?

Forgot to ask, but does a USB connector come with the system? If not, what kind/size of connector would I need and where can I get one?

What do you mean by USB connector? The ps3 has 4 USB ports, and is comes with a cable that is a regular USB connector on one end and a mini USB on the other end.

Excuse me, I'm not very knowledgeable on tech stuff. LoL. I meant a cord to connect my PS3 to my computer. But I guess you answered my question, I'm assuming it comes with a cable that will work?

MPEG files will play fine, including straight VOB files. Sometimes you may have to fiddle with file extensions since the PS3 relies on them.

AVI is only possible through specific MPEG4 codecs. As another poster said, you're better off converting those files to Video9. Of course there's no harm in trying!

You can use USB storage devices without any problem (as long at they are not NTFS).

Well im not sure if you can connect you PS3 straight to your computer, I think you need some sort of USB storage devise like a USB flash drive. I have been using my PSP with no problems :)

Providing your computer has an ethernet (which ~99% of computer do) you can just hook your PS3 up to your computers ethernet with a crossover cable, you might need some third party apllications for the setup of file sharing but it should work. The easiest way though as mentioned would be to use a USB storage device if you have acess to one
