[QUOTE="medhopeful"]I played FF7 and absolutely loved it, but I think I may have loved it too much as I refuse to play any of the FF games made after that for fear that I'll just be disappointed that it wasn't as good as seven. So I was wondering how the more recent ones are and if I should check them out. Are they better, worse, or different enough that there's no comparison?
Also, I was wondering if anyone knows why the series is called "Final Fantasy"? Thanks.

Please for the love of god if you are a fan of RPGs then just play them all starting at 1, because they are all great, FF8 even being a good improvement over 7. Also project-exile is spot on about the meaning, being that Final Fantasy was going to be Squaresoft's last game but ended up being a big success.FF II, III, and V are not great (imo), and XI is one of the most boring MMOs I've ever played. That being said, yes, the rest of them are great (even XI), and in order for me (not counting FF Tactics, which would be 2nd, and not counting the CC, spin-offs or Mystic Quest):
1-FFVI, 2-FFVII, 3-FFIV, 4-FFX, 5-FFVIII, 6-IX, 7-XII, 8-I, 9-III, 10-II, 11-V, 12-XI
As someone said before, TC, you should try and get Final Fantasy Tactics if you can. It's not like the main FF series, but it's the best Strategy RPG ever made (imo) and one of my favorite games of all time. Just be sure if you get it, get the ps1 version (very expensive) or PSP version. I HATE the GBA version, but that's just my opinion and probably because it's almost likely a childish version of the original, which having a mature storyline was the best aspect of the original. The PSP version, however, is the same as the ps1 game with new jobs and animated cutscenes, so I would actually recommend it over the ps1 version if you have a PSP.
As for buying the older FFs, some of them will be easier to get than others. FFVIII, IX, X and XII should be very easy. FFIV can be purchased along with another one of the greatest RPGs ever made, Chrono Trigger in the ps1 game Final Fantasy Chronicles, and FFVI can be bought with FFV (not all that great, but not bad) in the ps1 game Final Fantasy Anthology. Both of those games can be bought new for about $15 each (on Amazon). I would honestly suggest those two over any other FF, but you would have to be able to look past the SNES graphics.
