Crysis 2 inferior port

So I just read an article about the first showing of the PS3 version of Crysis 2 and its looking like an inferior port of the game. Here's a quote from the IGN article.

The verdict? Not so great, unfortunately. The performance of the PS3 version is pretty underwhelming. The framerate is frequently low and choppy. There are jagged lines everywhere, and shadows are especially messy. There's a muddiness to the graphics that's hard to stomach in the wake of the PS3's other flagship showpieces, and worse, the variable framerate really hurts controller response.

Yes, its not the final build of the game but the game is releasing soon and looks like its going to be released with problems. I honestly was never going to buy Crysis 2 because its just a generic FPS. So I ask you this, what do you think of inferior ports in general and why do us PS3 owners keep buying games that are inferior ports. It only helps to produce more inferior ported games.

I figured this would happen with such a demanding game. We have seen inferior ports too many times to count now, but I thought we were getting away from it recently. I was only going to rent Crysis 2 for the campaign, but I may wait a bit now. After playing Killzone 3, Bulletstorm, and still playing Black Ops a couple time a week with buddies I am a bit burnt on FPS's at the moment.

I will probably still play Homefront next week since I have been following it for awhile though. After Homefront, I will catch up on my backlog and wait for SOCOM 4 and Mortal Kombat since I have them both pre-ordered. I may finally put the time into Blazblue that I have been promising myself. I have also been wrestling with picking up either the new Top Spin or Virtua Tennis to use my move on. Just thinking out loud here.:P

I posted this so I can get your perspectives on ports in general. There's plenty to talk about that doesn't involve talking about the other systems at hand.

And you honestly believe them? I don't know how many times this has been said by various developers but only a few games can support their claims. If they are claiming this, how come they haven't shown footage of the game up until recently? hmmm...

Oh, well you did a good making it obvious. :P I've been looking at previews and videos of this game and its just another generic fps imo.

I wouldn't be suprised at all if it came out inferior--which is what i believe it will come out as. As stated by the others above, this is a PC developer first and foremost. They created their engine speficially for the PC, then they port it over to the PS3's foreign hardware. My opinion on inferior ports? Because the PS3 is different from other hardwares (Xbox, PC) it should already be getting horrible FPS or be unplayable unless they re-encode the game engine to work for the ps3. The xbox has similar architecture to the PC so if they get any problems it should be easy to solve, (because its not foriegn) not to mention they don't have to re-encode too much of their engine. Anybody who's been a PC gamer knows, how do you increase framerates? Turn down the settings for the game. Intstead of re-encoding all the problems their engines faces to make it run smooth they just turn down the settings on the ps3 version. Why not fix the problems instead of turning down the visual settings? Because it costs money, here you have two games (Xbox and PC) that works correctly and now you have this third version just chugging out horrible performance. You can either study the ps3's hardware to the fullest and rencode major codes in your engine taking time and money or you can turn down the settings and leave it. Since most of it isn't noticeable unless you are a total geek gamer who counts and sees FPS, screen tearing, less detailed environments (tree's missing, etc), AA, AF, insert anything here. Most people say its because the devs are lazy but i call the opposite of that assumption, its more about money than their willingness to study and understand the Ps3 hardware. Crysis 2 has been a long time coming so as far as I'm concerned, if it comes out equal or better than the Xbox counterpart then the devs made the time, spent the money, and put the effort to make the PS3 version but if it comes out gimped, which is what i believe, then I go back to my theory.

This doesent sound too good, but Crytek said the PS3 version is gonna look better than the 360 version. I will get the game forPS3anyway though.

I look at it like this Demon, the former developers from free-radical are involved in Crysis 2's development...So at least the "GAMEPLAY" will be solid.

I hate it that they don't care enough to correctly port games to the PS3.

as far as the game goes, just wait and see. read lots of reviews and user comments or maybe just rent it first. as far as bad ports in gen. well it just depends how bad a port it is. fallout 3 for example had some frame rate and texture qualty short comeings compaired to the othe system but they were not bad enough for me to pass on the game. same with re5. it looked a little bit better on that other system but still looked and played well enough on the ps3 for me to get the game.
