Hey everyone I'm holding out on buying a PS3 until mid August, and I'm worried now with this announcement of the 80GB Core PS3. If I buy the MGS4 bundle I get the game as well, but the game is $60. I was thinking of giving in my PS2 slim to make up for the extra $40 and that way I could play my PS2 games on the new system. Now the new core system has 80Gb but no backwards compatibility. So should I try to find a MGS4 bundle and sell my PS2 and pay $500 (does the PS3 run the games well enough to even consider this?) or should I wait for the core system and buy the game for $460 and keep my PS2? Any advice would be much appreciated
You should get the MGS4 bundle while you can. You'll also get an extra controller (duel shock 3), and you'll have the memory card readers. If you purchase the new core system with MGS4, you'll only be saving 40 dollars.
The PS3 runs BC great, and its a better overall deal. You should definitely go with the MGS4 bundle. The 80 gig runs BC through emulation, so the list of PS2 playable isn't 100 %. Here's a link if you want to check to see if your favorite PS2 games are compatible with the 80 gig.
That's very helpful thank you so much! I really appreciate it. I do hope that there will still be some MGS4 systems left by the time I get to the states in early august. Again, much appreciated!
No question, get the MGS4 80gb. The BC is awesome and the games look way better than on the PS2. You also will not have to deal with multiple cords, memory cards, and have a nice all in 1 system with a wireless controller. This easily makes it worth the extra $40.
Also, you will get a free voucher for PAIN, which is pretty fun.
