Yea so i got the ps3 last week. I had already owned xbox 360 for about a half year. I've ALWAYS played COD4 with a cat5e cable run to the back of my wireless router through the walls in the living room without any lag and in fact with usually 5 bars of connection signalled blah blah blah. Anyway....when I went to hook up my ps3 to the SAME EXACT WIRE, i get tons of lag, the game has to download settings forever and sometimes I get booted. HOWEVER, the same router that my cat5e is connected to can provide wireless for me to connect to. Upon connecting to that wireless, i suddenly have 3 or more bars...PFM or just something I'm doing wrong?? Thanks

i could understand how you would think that but, my internet is T1 because it's connected to my business so it can't be the internet service provider causing the problem. I'm thinking that for some reason the console itself just isn't taking my ethernet connection and doing with it what should be done. I mean come on, wireless from the same router that's feeding my ethernet?? Plus, like i said, the xbox worked fine every single time until I tried playing wireless with a wireless adapter...THAT sucked..

That's really and truly odd. Depending on what type of router you're sporting, a hardwire connection should be way better than the wireless. (for example, a wireless G (or 802.11g) connection runs at roughly half the speed of cat5e). Could be that the router has an issue. By that means, could be an issue with system (leaning more towards that since the 360 seems a-ok).

edit: from the sound of it, it can't be your internet (or ISP/Internet Service Provider) as that would be a universal problem. If the connection strength/general quality is dependent upon wired/wireless than it's an issue with the local (your) hardware. After all, it's all the same service running in. At that rate it's either (A) the cable (B) the router/modem (C) the PS3.

then again with the hardware too..i tried other wires also. The router is a linysys 300 wireless N router...i mean, a $150 router and new wires the ps3 is what's causing the problem but I'm wondering if there's maybe a similar console out there that someone else had the same problem with but idk. That's why i posted to get other opinions so it's def helping me to realize what the problem isn't and what it is. VERY confusing and ironic at a few points but thanks for the help. Anyone out there who may have had the same problem please do educate me as I'm def very new to this ps3.
