Hey all, I've been debating for quite a while and decided that I will definitely get a ps3 once I can afford it, suprisingly enough, because of the great value with the blu ray player.

Well recently they just released Payback, which was a awesome Mel Gibson, noir type action movie. They've released it on dvd and blu ray.  This is one of my favorite movies, and I'm estatic that they it gets a recut and a better transfer. I was wondering if you guys had a opinion on wheter it is worth waiting and buy it on blu ray or just go with the dvd now.

Will I be kicking myself for not getting it on blu ray, or just go with it on dvd?

I have a sony 34inch 1080i crt, if that helps at all.

No, that whole resolutuion thing is not an issue for me, because it supports 720p inputs and upconverts it to 1080i.

i agree, just wait for the ps3. that's what i'm doing for casino royale. if you've seen it already, there won't be a difference if you see it on dvd. there WILL be a difference if you see it on blu-ray

To be honest I haven't seen a difference on either Blu-Ray or HD-DVD worth getting too excited about.  And yes, I've seen them in 1080P.  It's nothing too exiting, it is the same movie after all.

Casino Royale on blu ray is incredible, so it's likely that Payback will be too.  Check IGN DVD for a review if they have one on the bluray version.

Convince me to get ps3? What part of my post did you not read? oh how bout the part saying "I will definitely get a ps3 once I can afford it".

Honestly, its a tought decision for me cause I want to start progressing my purchases towards blu ray disc movies, but its tough as hell deciding what to do when your in the "in between" phase which movies to go blu ray and which you can get away with on dvd.

That's basically what I'm trying to get at here.

Allright gotcha. Blu-ray is all but killing HD-DVD. I watch regular DVDs on my PS3 and while there may not be upscaling, I have to say the picture is still gorgeous. Can't go wrong in that regard imo.

Great observation.  You obviously didn't read the part where I said Blu-Ray OR HD-DVD.  They're both overpriced for what they offer, and I can live with watching a movie on DVD over it's HD counterpart any day.  The difference in quality isn't worth the $10+ a movie it costs.

I'm all for the added storage capacity though, but it's not like movies look bad on DVD anyway.

Good god the difference is huge. You can see so much little detail in everything in HD.
