I have never played it, but I have read about people complaining it's basically God of War 3 with a bad story ... and that is why it's kind of looked down on. I don't really feel any desire to play when I look at videos of the gameplay or trailers ... it just seems "Meh"
I thought the game was very good . I enjoyed the graphics. The different types of monsters. I read the book in college, and so it was nice to see the video game equivalent. It didn't take long to finish and so you could proabably beat it in a weekend or so. The only thing i didn't like were some of the swinging puzzles. They felt tacked on.
Hardly underrated. It's a fun violent romp with cool atmosphere, but that's about it. The gameplay has been done many times before, so nothing groundbreaking there. The story is a weak "save the damsel in distress" cliche (although I don't really play hack-n-slash games for the story). About the only thing unique about the game is the setting. The game tapered off towards the end. And I thought it was a bit silly to keep seeing enemies outside their respective circles (which in turn diminished the uniqueness of each circle).
Game has its problems, I was a bit disappointed but still its a decent game. Cross and Scythe were definately fun weapons to slaughter with. If they choose to do anything more with it, I hope they put more polish and finishing touches into the game instead of rushing it
I agree with most people posts on this topic so far. It was a decent game, that offered a solid 3rd person action. However, this game did not stray too far from the god of war formula. By no means is this a bad thing, however, but God of war 3, the Darksiders and Bayonetta offer a much better gaming experience. Dante's inferno is strongly overshadowed by these 3 games, having been releasedwithin a year from each other.
Those 4 games were actually all released within about a 2 1/2 month period so I can definitely see what you mean by DI being overshadowed.I agree with most people posts on this topic so far. For some odd reason it felt like Bayonetta was release much earlier than the other 3. I just checked the release dates, and you are right, all were released within 2 and 1/2 months. Dante's inferno faced very tough competition. I don't think many people thought Darksiders was going to be as great as it was. I know that game caught me by surprise.
Dante's inferno was a good gaming experience, but Bayonetta, God of War 3 and Darksiders out classed Dante's Inferno in almost all aspect. Dante's Inferno had an interesting story and atmosphere.
I thought it was great, definitely underrated here on Gamespot, I'd give it 8/10. The level design is really good up until the last 2 levels where the developers either ran out of ideas or didn't bother sustaining the style in imagery earlier on in the game.

Well Bayonetta was released in October '09 in Japan so maybe that's what you were thinking of. Never played Darksiders, but the other 2 were definitely better than DI. Not a bad game at all, but still not quite to same level as those 2.They built it up to be a GOW killer but was completely overshadowed when GOW actually came out and kind of got forgotten among the "hack and slash" games. Darksiders and bayonetta all came out within the same time and it kind of got lost among the mix. GOW and Bayonetta came out on top and are being compared and pitted against each other
Bayonetta does not triumph over anything, especially not God of War III or Darksiders. Both games are far superior to Bayonetta, don't see why lousy game like that gets so much praise. I share the same point of view but you have to be a bit more open minded. Don't think of it the same as the others because its not supposed to be. everyone who thinks its supposed to be the same as gow, devil may cry etc. think that its the worst game ever. Im sure there are people saying "A bald, white skinned dude with chains burned to his arms,No thank you". (although that does sound bad ass)
