I'm gonna get the game this weekend but I have a feeling the more open world design may not work for meand will also effect the overall feeling of the game. I prefer the more linear gameplay of demon souls. I guess I'll see this weekend...

Dark Souls is a linear game, and like Demon's Souls, it takes some exploration. You do NOT have a Nexus, but you do have firepits ... and from there it is linear. there is NOTHING "open world" about it

Not even the fact that you can go anywhere you please and back track to places you've been before and places that have shortcuts that branch back to older places? I'd say that's pretty open. I wouldn't call it open world but it's close to being non-linear. It's still linear in a sense you have to progress areas in a certain order based on how strong your character is but later in the game I'm not sure that's the case.[QUOTE="junglist101"]

Not exactly true. The game is a mix of linear and open world. You see, games like Oblivion are 100% open world, whereas a game like Dark Souls is more like 50. There are a ton of side bosses, hidden treasure, and shortcuts to find, but the main game is pretty linear, and it's not nearly as open as a game like Oblivion. It is open in the sense that it isn't structured into near Archstones like last game, which I really really like, since I personally feel that Demon's Souls would have been better as an open world game, and now with Dark Souls that has been confirmed. It also makes the game much harder since you never know 100% where you should be going next, and getting back to an easier area or doing something else will be just as difficult as it was getting there. I love this game![QUOTE="CBottom7"][QUOTE="junglist101"]

I love this game!UGH> Did you even PLAY Demon's Souls? It has "Hidden treasure" and "side bosses" also. This is the SAME layout only with a firepit where you CAN NOT choose to go to different worlds. I think that is VERY linear.
