In a eight page interview featured in the April issue of Edge Magazine, Dark Souls producer/director/game designer Hidetaka Miyazaki shared new information about the game's story, multiple endings and the "Third World" that is Dark Souls.

I am becoming extremely more convinced Dark Souls, much like Demon's Souls, is a practice in S&M.

That's themain reason I don't want to ever play this game or Demon's Souls, it's not worth my time when I can be having actual 'fun' with many other games.

That's themain reason I don't want to ever play this game or Demon's Souls, it's not worth my time when I can be having actual 'fun' with many other games.

Some people enjoy a challenge and the game most certainly isn't for everyone. I can understand your perspective though I don't agree with it.

Same here. A lot of games these days are just too easy by default. I like a game that wants to put you through the ringer. It makes beating all the more rewarding. I can honestly say that Demon's Souls is still the most fun I've had in a game this gen.

He's not saying the game will be too hard to complete, he hopes that people won't want to complete it & will have their character live in the world forever... O_o ... i don't see the incentive in doing that though especially for the first playthrough, & if there's new game+ again.

Oh man I hope not, that was the one disappointment of Demon's Souls - the ending. Praying that Dark Souls has an epic finish.

Trust me they care about sales but it seems they are catering to a different crowd then the norm. I am actually really glad that Namco/From Software are very up front with the game, either that or they are using reserve psychology. Usually devs want to be politically correct and try to aim a title to everyone which is nonsense because you are doing a disservice to the title and of course a game can't appeal to everyone, un less we are speaking about the Wii. Anyway the devs already have a fan base with Demon's Souls and they were very happy with the sales of that title, seeing as how this one will be multiplat I am sure the sales will be plenty-full.

"If the mind becomes to far gone then the character will become a zombie or monster. That is what you are fighting against in the game; this curse of not being able to face death."

I have a good feeling about this piece of information.. hope this means that if and _when_ you are too far gone in the game, you actually become one of the monsters that other players have to beat in order to survive themselves. This would mean the difficulty rises with each passing day the game is out there =) Other players could stay in the world to make it harder for others etc.

And also that each character has individual goals to complete, sounds very nice and gives a lot of replayability if the class really matters this time around. Can't wait for Dark Souls to be released even though I still have to complete Demon's Souls too.

I was definitely in the "I'm not getting it because it's too difficult" crowd and then I couldn't resist the $19.99 price point and the great reviews it has gotten. I agree that upsetting the fan base is not a great move. I'm glad that Dark Souls is not apologizingfor the difficulty it's going tocontain.Also, (and maybe I'm saying this because I'm still early in the game) but Demon's Souls IS difficult, but not impossible. I think that's part of the game's beauty is that it doesn't play by YOUR rules and doesn't hide the fact that's it's complex. I'm addicted to it even though I'm gettingmybutt kicked over and over again. I would much rather get value for the money I spend rather than finishing a game in one sitting.

Misleading title is misleading. "But the endgame is not really the focus at all. In a sense I dare not require a player to complete the game. There is a completion point but it's a game where the user canchoose not to complete it, just live in this world for eternity." It's just saying there's no actual "ending" really and that it sort of just continues on (just like Demon's Souls).

You can just have a save point right before the final boss, and also they should just make the game world still available no matter what the outcome. He aslo says playing it for an "eternity", does that mean that the game world will grow like an MMO or something?

You got to the last boss and couldn't stab it a few times to end the game? The final boss is pretty much the definition of a pushover.

I actually kind of doubt it. I feel that the only reason Demon's Souls attracted so much attention was because of it's difficulty. If it had difficulty settings like other normal games, I can bet that the game actually would have sold less.

Haha this, only reason i started playing Demon Souls (not that i didn't liek it, luved it) but i wanted to test my gaming skills/will.

Not a good thing tho, gamers want to beat games (obviously) its a sense of great accomplishment.Hope its not too hard.

Exactly. I wish more developers felt that way. I'm seeing too many amazing franchises being dumbed down and handed off to the masses in complete disregard for their core fanbase.

I actually kind of doubt it. I feel that the only reason Demon's Souls attracted so much attention was because of it's difficulty. If it had difficulty settings like other normal games, I can bet that the game actually would have sold less.

It totally would have. Demon's souls was being imported like crazy before it was ever even announced for the US and UK because everyone heard about the killer difficulty and were up for the challenge. The game's difficulty was what made it so popular, and the fact that you couldn't just hack n slash and button mash your way through the game is what made it GOTY. The crazy thing is that as long as you paid attention to what you were doing the game really wasn't all that difficult.

They didn't lose one sale. You don't have any idea why the game sold so much, do you? *Game releases in Japan* ---> A good famitsu review focusing on the hardcore challenge of the game causes hardcore gamers on NeoGAF to import it ---> Through the Neogaf OT for the game, many more buy import it from world of mouth (like me) ---> Atlus sees that game is selling well and it would be worth it to bring it to USA and Europe ---> *Game releases in USA to great reviews and respectable sales* If the game wasn't challenging, it would be terrible. And nobody would've brought it. Sounds like you found the game hard or something. Do you play sport? Then you would know that the reason it's so gratifying to win a tournament, is because it's difficult, and requires work. With Demons Souls, it requires skill, knowledge of the levels, practice, to beat a level: it's much more gratifying when you do.

If it's worth playing, I'll finish it.....and if it's as fun as Demon's Souls I platinum it too. I'm all for a challenge aslong as the diffculty isn't cheap. Demon's Souls never felt cheap.
