This is the begining of the article:

Solid Snake voice actor David Hayter was surprisingly candid at Anime Expo's centerpiece guest-of-honor panel, where he admitted to being frustrated at times with Metal Gear Solid series director Hideo Kojima's over-the-top scriptwriting and direction. He specifically called out the suicide scene highlighted in Metal Gear Solid 4trailers, saying that Snake, a man who's killed thousands, shouldn't flinch at pulling the trigger on himself. "I didn't agree with that at all, and I begged them to change it, but I think it's still in the final game," he said. "I didn't buy it at all. I think it's weak for Snake to be killing other people and then not be able to kill himself when it's time. If he knows it's time, then it's time."

He also mentioned some moments that happened in MGS1 that felt unnecessary and and that the alternative ending cause some problems to voice actors and how the part with him escaping with Otacon felt like a romantic moment.

I agree that the ending was overdone and it should have ended with Snake pulling the trigger but it seems Kojima felt it was necessary to do so, I like the ending but it took along time to finish.

What do you think?

Do you also Agree, or happy with the ending?

i think Snake should have shot himself and showed him die(gosh i sound so horrible :P ), but the ending was good and quite moving, but i definatly do agree that the dialog should have been cut down.

the ending could have been a lot better. For me the best MGS ending was that of MGS3 (where you learn the truth about the Boss)

I naturally felt some discontent when i thought he shot himself. I would almost rather someone kill him. But i don't have that much experience in the MGS story.

Why shouldn't he hesitate, this is his own life he's taking. Even though Snake has killed thousands (although if you tranq everyone...), anyways even though he as killed he still hesitates. Remember back in the first game at the end when Gray Fox tells him to shoot Liquid, Snake hesistates cause he doesn't want to hurt his best friend.

In MGS4 while Raiden is fighting Vamp, if you point your gun up he does the same thing repeating the same line "Ugh I can't do it" and hestitates to shoot, of course if you shot it'd mess up the cutscene but still.

Ending was fine, leaves room for...MGS5: Retirement Home

I like the ending, besides it showed Snakes human side. If he did kill himself it would have just proved that Snake has no emotions but he clearly does. Anyway he had no reason to kill himself because the new foxdie in his body stopped the old foxdie from turning Snake it a bilogical weapon or something. Big Boss came at the right time to explain to Snake that he has no reason to kill himself and he should live the remainder of his life not as a Snake but as a human being, as David :D

I thought the ending was great. So what if Snake killed many people, that was what he was trained to do. Who is ready to take their own life?

it's just namoi told snake at the end of metal gear solid 1, "to live". BW, i think namoi is one of the dumbest characters ever......she injects fox die into snake to seek revenge for killing grey fox, but then in mgs4 she sides with the person who killed im a second time??? WTF??? I don't even see why she showed so much remorse for vamp either, its like she didn't care that *spoilers* he killed otocons sister.

I think the ending made Snake more human than if he just killed himself without thinking about it. He's not just a machine without feelings. I do agree that some of the dialoge is a bit over the top but that's probably because it's a japanese game, all the anime I've seen have had the same strange dialoge.

I agree... anyway, I think Snake's hesitation emphasizes the depth of his character... that there's a lot going on inside him during this time that he's not vocalizing. Or perhaps that his mission had somehow affected his viewpoint on many things, or that it had broadened his perspective.

As far as the story is concerned, I think it was self-consciously complicated and that they could've afforded to trim the dialogue a bit... but really, it's the melodrama and such that sortof put me off a bit, and the heavy-handedness of the storytelling... that any point that Hideo Kojima felt the need to make, he felt the need to beat you over the head with it and spell it out. Subtlety is one of the premier skills a storyteller can possess, and Hideo Kojima clearly lacks it.

All that being said, it was a phenomenal game and, shortcomings aside, I did enjoy the story.

I think the wackiness of everything gives kojima's games a weird charm. Like they are serious but not too serious.
I also think though that the ending represents his will to live and change the way he lives. Everyone that sacrificed themselves for him wanted him to live. It was kinda like saying he deserves to live after all the good he has done for the world. Plus with the virus' mutation he wouldn't be a threat to everyone he cared about anymore. If he was he'd prolly kill himself after big boss died.
